DS seems to have a problem when having a wee

My ds aged 4 1/2 may have a problem with his 'winkie' (ok I know but that is what we call it..) when he has a wee - the end of his 'winkie' balloons up & the flow is quite slow. TBH it has been like this for quite a while & just thought that it is normal but while ds was staying over my mums she got quite worried & is making an appointment to take him to doctors tomorrow (I will go too but she does sometimes take charge!) Any one else had this as I am now getting really worried & feel awful that me or dh haven't picked up on this before now.

hi zippyb
Don't worry - lots of other little boys seem to have the same problem. In my ds case and in others it seems to be caused by a tight foreskin that I suppose is collecting the wee in it first before it has enough force to pop out (what a lovely image I seem to have created).
A couple of other mums posted queries about the same thing and if I were clever I would attach a shortcut to them. But as I'm not all that techie try the 'search' under 'tight foreskin' or 'ballooning'(but in health not travel)- there is a thread called 'tight foreskin?' that might help and also a few others.
In case you can't find it, tight foreskins seem quite common in little boys but doctors don't seem overly concerned about it as they often get 'looser' with age.
Grandmothers can get very clucky can't they? Wait til mine gets the video of our holiday I've just sent - we dropped a spoon on baby's head and he looks very photogenic with a black eye - I'm just waiting for the phone call . . .

Thanks morocco - will search threads mentioned when ds gets off my lap & lets me back on the computer - glad that it seems that I'm not to worry though.

how did it go at the doctors?

Hi morocco - went yesterday to see doc & she has tested ds water for infection but it was clear - she said that it could be a deep infection inside so has prescribed antibiotics & canasten cream. She said that if this doesn't clear it up (bearing in mind ds has had a couple of water infections in the past) she will refer him & looks like he will have to go for the op. Burst into tears at chemist (grandma took ds for a drink in cafe) - not so much that he may have to have this done but that he will have to go into hospital & have a general anthestic. But will deal with it if it happens - better that then have him have recurrent infections. Will post again after he has finished these antibiotics - you never know it may clear things up...

hi zippyb
sorry to hear about infection and antibiotics etc. I asked a while ago on mumsnet about circumcision for my little one because I was worried about lots of infections in the future so I can imagine how upsetting it must be thinking about the op (know just what you mean about worrying about the general anaesthetic/having any op at all etc)
It was quite a controversial thread (not sure I'd recommend reading thro it as some comments quite upset me but if you feel brave then search for 'circumcision yes or no' but what was interesting was that some people's little boys had the snip just under local anaesthetic even when your ds's age for example and there seemed to be quite a few different ways of getting the op done too - sorry bit of a long ramble but I mean that if it's the idea of ga then maybe it's not nec, and also the op seems to be very quick and easy and without any trauma for the little boy afterwards. Hope this puts your mind at rest a little anyway (just thinking of the things that I was worried about anyhow)
I'm sure quite a few other people on mumsnet have been through the same dilemma.
Good luck with the antibiotics
