Is it normal to have lost the will to live (not literally) after 6 weeks of continuous bleeding

I have been bleeding since the 9th Feb when I got a coil fitted. I keep having moments where I can feel my heart beating and I could sleep for Scotland. I have cancelled dd1's gymnastics tonight as I just couldnt be bothered with all the running about etc it involved so she is currently out playing. What is wrong with me??? Do I just need a good hard slap.

you are probably aneamic if you have been bleeding for weeks.

some bleeding after the coil is normal, it gradually slows and becomes spotting , then disappears

i would see your doc or family planning clinic again and start taking an iron supplement such as spatone in the meantime

singyswife · 23/03/2009 17:10

Thanks, I was beginning to wonder if maybe I was aneamic. I am knackered ALL the time. I am normally a really active person who spends my life rushing here there and everywhere and I just cant be Arsed.

i would get checked out ASAP

after my coil, i was given a little diary to fill in of whether i was bleeding or spotting and it took a good few weeks to settle, but the true bleeding stopped within 2 - 3 weeks, IIRC.

poor you. must be miserable

singyswife · 23/03/2009 17:13

Yep am very fed up especially given that I got the coil fitted in the first place to stop heavy prolongued bleeding.

hmmm. so it is not really helping,
i would go back to who fitted it and discuss

singyswife · 23/03/2009 17:50

Yeah I think I will. I just feel soooo crappy and today I am feeling really sorry for myself

Agree probably anaemic. Get your iron levels checked. If you want to have some idea, try pulling down your lower eyelid and looking in a mirror- if it looks pale in there, you may well be. I bled for 8 weeks once (before a mmc and after the ERPC) and can confirm that I felt absolutely fucking awful. It took months to recover and wish I'd had the energy and sense to take iron.

singyswife · 23/03/2009 20:43

'absolutely fucking awful' is exactly how I feel right now. I will make an appointment for the gp and see if I can find iron tablets somewhere.

Bumping to catch the night time crowd, hoping somone has had this and can tell me how to fix it and when it will go away.

Can't help on the bleeding (but I think you need to see your GP asap), but one of the ways to get iron levels up easily with no side effects is to get some carob powder from a helth food or wholefood shop - add a tsp to eg breakfast, yoghurt or even milky drink - I got my levels up in one week what doctors thought I would take 3 wks on the iron tablets... 100% natural, very easily absorbed. Hope you feel better soon.

Ah thank you I will try and get to a health shop after work in the morning. Thanks (too tired to even think about work lol).

Hi

Had coil fitted last summer, and bleed for 12 weeks (only had 2 breaks of about 2 days each). It was hell. Was knackered all the time, and my emotions were all over the show.

GP said it would get better, just needed time to settle, however after 12 weeks it was getting worse not better had it taken out.

Be warned you then bleed really heavily (I was using a tampax and towel and still leaking. Clots were huge and DD pulled covers back one morning and it looked like a blood bath.

That's my story, other people I know have had no problem whatsoever. Every one is different.

See GP but don't be fobbed off. Good luck, I found it soul destroying by the end.

Sorry if I sound Anti Coil - I'm not it just didn't work for me.

singyswife · 24/03/2009 13:45

Hi MrsPurple, thank you for that. I debated and debated getting the coil fitted but kept being told this was my only option. I went for it so I could eliminate it from the treatment options and was told to give it 6 months but TBH I feel so shitty I dont think I can last that long, I have an appointment next week to discuss how I am getting on with it so will see what they say then.

Thanks

Is it the mirena (sp?) coil? Because I had the old-fashioned variety fitted and bled for 1 year. The mirena has actually worked for me, though.

theDreadPiratePerArdua · 24/03/2009 13:54

Just to add, get your iron levels up but also take a B12 supplement - sublingual is supposed to work best. I've always been a bleeder, and the B12 got my energy back when iron on its own didn't seem to do anything.

singyswife · 24/03/2009 13:57

I will go to the health food shop tomorrow and have a good look and maybe speak to the staff.

Yes it is the Mirena.

MrsPurple · 24/03/2009 22:09

Sorry mine was Mirena too.
