Last night my DS (15 months) and I emabarked on our first long car journey without DH. What could go wrong?

About 120 miles into the journey my ddds had a terrible vomiting spell over me, himself, the duvet, car seat etc whilst travelling on the M6.

I managed to clean up as best we could and got safely to my mums.

He has now been sick 5ish times today and cannot keep even water or dioralyte down. I'm just giving him sips of water but he is weak and desperate to eat now.

I think I'm doing all I can so reassurance or advice would be great.

I don't think my car will be usable ever again...

All I can give is lots of sympathy. Ds has done the same thing several times, but he is growing out of it a bit now that he is 3.

He once did it when we were on the A1. We pulled off the road, it was blowing a gale and raining, so we all got soaked while we were sorting out the horrid mess. In addition the counter weight on the boot of the car had broken, so I was trying to get clothes out of the boot, while holding the boot up with one hand. Once I had the clothes I let the boot drop (it is very heavy) and changed my ds. When I looked back at the boot it was foaming like a rabid dog. I had dropped the boot on a canester of Virgin Vie foot fizz, and it was froathing madly. So we finished the trip with a car stinking of vomit and peppermint! awful!

I hope your DS gets better soon

What a horrible experience for you, woozle. It sounds like he has a vomiting bug. My ds had one a few weeks ago - couldn't keep even water down for the first day or so. Keep trying with the sips of water, eventually something will stay down. Don't worry about him needing food - he's probably weak through the illness rather than having not eaten. He'll be able to manage for a few days with very little to eat. My ds was being sick for 3 days on and off. He started to take some food on the 3rd day but it didn't stay down (we just gave him plain biscuits at that stage). After that, he started to eat again but he did have some terrible nappies . If your ds seems to have something similar, my advice is to stick to bland, plain food with lots of carbohydrate and stay off the dairy products. This will help to stop the diarrhoea. There was a thread about vomiting and diarrhoea bugs at the time my ds was ill - it's here

Hope your ds gets better soon.

Woozle, sorry to hear your little one is poorly. Try small amounts of 'flat' lucazade. The sugar content might give him an energy boost.
Hope it works.

Thanks for all your advice and support.
We saw a doctor early this morning as things were no better. Loads of vomiting this morning.

He has a sore throat and horrible catargh infection which may be causing the vomiting or just adding a layer to his infection.

What a long day and long night - quite glad I'm at his grandparents as they are here to provide us both with help.

Poor you and ds, woozle, I can sympathize. It's awful when there's so little you can do for them to take the pain and misery away, particularly as you're suffering with little sleep.

I was in that same boat with gingernut a few weeks ago, dd is totally back to normal now but it took a long time... and while she was still weak she went down with chicken pox! All out the way before Easter.

Good luck, hope he pulls through soon.
