My (extremely expensivly crowned) molar has just fallen out at the gum line iyswim.

The crown and the tooth inside have seemingly sheared off, leaving the root bit behind.

Any experts out there? Will I be able to have the tooth fixed/crown re-attached or will I have to have what's left extracted?

Am annoyed as this crown has not felt right since I had it done 2 years ago!

May change my name to Ma Clampit now

Am I the only toothless old hag on here?

No expert I'm afraid but lol at your thread title .

Hope you can sort it soon - but in the meantime get some rollers in and take up smoking.

Mandragore · 21/03/2009 15:58

They will probably put in a post and change it to a post crown. It's not usually a problem as far as I know x

elsiepiddock · 21/03/2009 16:01

Lol Hassled! Thanks Mandragore.

Have been reduced to chatting to myself in the mirror, inlcuding throwing my head back laughing - just to see how obvious it is!

That was £500 well spent

When did you have it done? Maybe they will reduce the cost of replacement if it wasn't long ago - they ought to last about 10-20 years really.

gomez · 21/03/2009 16:16

Not just you - this will cheer you up. Crown put in 20 years ago fell out, underlying tooth cracked so needs to come out. No way am I having a falsie so implant is the way ahead £2500 (and 12 months)later nice new 'tooth'. 3 months after that raging infection in said implant, 2 hours of scrapping to remove infection and place bone substitute to replace that lost to infection - leave surgery looking like Leslie Ash/Pete Burns love child So am now another 3 months later trying to pluck up courage to start all over again ....

elsiepiddock · 21/03/2009 21:59

omg Gomez!! Nightmare. Did you have to pay for all of that privately? Have been thinking implant might be next step - aargh!

Mandragore - I had it done about 2 yrs ago but I just can't face going back to the same dentist, she was such a vicious cow and everything she did hurt like fuck.

As soon as my treatment was over I was determined never to go back to her again.

Oh no, Herbietea!

How on earth will they get it out?

It has broken down to the gum line!

(God, I hate my teeth. And my dh for that matter, who has one filling the size of a full stop.)

blinks · 21/03/2009 22:18

bit of chewing gum, stick it back in, hey presto, bob's your uncle.

elsiepiddock · 21/03/2009 22:20

I'm with you, Marla.

My tooth came out because I was eating some Starburst that my dcs had in a party bag and had left lying around because they don't like sweets!!

(Is it wrong to resent one's own children??)

No herbitea, please tell me!!

Does it involve slicing my gums open?

I have had such horrors at the dentist, I can take it..

elsie - I had a retained root extracted on friday. I won't lie-it wasn't nice BUT it was over quick and it wasn't painful.

My dentist drilled at it for a bit and then pulled each of the 3 roots out. Good uck

elsiepiddock · 22/03/2009 15:35

Thanks spinach.

I'm quite brave at the dentist, Lord knows I've had to be!

Update - my face has swollen up and I am in agony!!

I am counting the minutes until my dentist appt (3pm) but dreading it also.

Am overdosing on painkillers. Wish me luck!!

ilovespinach · 26/03/2009 15:58

Hi Elsie,

Hope everything went ok at the dentist

elsiepiddock · 26/03/2009 16:47

Thanks Spinach. Am back now with a weeks worth of that hardcore anti-biotic.

He couldn't re-use my £500 crown as I'd hoped but doesn't want to pull out the root as it's in OK condition.

So root filling here I come - deep joy!
