anyone else suffer with low blood pressure?

Went to the doctor today as I have fainted a few times recently, had panic attacks and feeling very jittery but tired.

Doctor has said it is anaemia and low blood pressure. It has always been on the low side which I thought was good as we have a lot of high blood pressure, strokes and heart problems.

But there does not seem to be much I can do to raise my blood pressure, he said more water would help with the symptoms, not rushing about in the morning, eating little and often and more exercise. But it all seemed a bit woolly.

Does anyone else get this?

Yes, exactly as you describe. Have had it for years.

I faint a lot, have panic attacks and very often feel jittery.

My doctor advised me to 'sit up slowly'

They did also say drink more water and eat more often, but I felt that was very generic advice, that is beneficial to anyone.

twinsetandpearls · 20/03/2009 21:37

Yes I got the sit up slowly. I have veen fainting in the morning, he said that was because I am rushing about when seconds before I was lying down.

Apparantly my anti depressants may lower my blood pressure as well, but I the low blood pressure is less of an evil than rampant depression.

Yes.. said that to me.

I thought 'do you think I wake up, and literally jump out of bed and start rushing around?' Who does that?!

So now I use it as a great excuse to lie in bed for ten minutes every morning before I actually get out of bed. You know, I might faint.

twinsetandpearls · 20/03/2009 21:40

lol an excuse to laze around.

I do wake up and rush around.

I have this too and it's a bit frustrating the lack of interest and concern because you do hear of when the bp get too low you die don't you, but if the professionals are not concerned live with it by knowing your normal reading and whenever it's taken you tell them that figure for a starting point/

twinsetandpearls · 20/03/2009 21:52

Have you been able to do anything to raise your blood pressure mamas.

Salt. Which I actually started to do about a year ago, I started adding a lot more salt to everything, and it seems to have helped.

twinsetandpearls · 20/03/2009 21:57

The doctor asked me about salt, I am actually fanatical about not putting salt in things, that was the way I was bought up. As I said there are huge high blood pressure problems in my family. So maybe I need to be adding salt.

I haven't been able but I haven't fainted so much. Salt is a new idea sometimes I crave something salty so maybe I should add more salt. Thanks.

WowOoo · 21/03/2009 12:27

I get strong urges for salt and sneak it on food occasionally.

This is prob why I felt alot better as we just don't use it that much. Interesting.

WowOoo · 21/03/2009 12:28

Hope you feel better soon Twinset by the way...get yourself a nice pack of crisps or some chips....yum!

lou33 · 21/03/2009 12:29

mine is usually about 100/60, but it used to get lower when i was pg

KatyMac · 21/03/2009 12:32

Mine is low

It went very low in PG - so much so that they said 'Goodness - I'd better take hat again in a minute, it's so low I might have to admit you to the ward' When she took it again it was bang on normal......I really didn't want to go to hospital

I snack on high salt snacks, for 6m in the 90's I was on a supervised high salt diet but it made little difference unless I ate so much salt my food was inedible

It is a pain tbh

norksinmywaistband · 21/03/2009 12:49

How low is considered low?
mine is normally about 95/55
Drops in PG( not going to happen again though) and during labour & delivery was apparantly as low as 50/30( I went deaf, very wierd experience)

Seems wierd they can't treat it like they can HBP

I find making sure I am well hydrated helps

WowOoo · 21/03/2009 12:50

What would a low reading be for average sized lady?

Twinset, there's a salty snack which is high in iron too but I can't for the lfe of me think what it is. Anyone else?

twinsetandpearls · 21/03/2009 13:05

I think you dont want your blood pressure to be over 120/80 and now lower than 90/60. I think mine has been around 60/45.

I think that is close to death

I dont get it though because I am overweight so I always worry about high blood pressure rather than low. But I get a fair amount of exercise and eat healthily.

I guess yours in borderline norks which I think is where I was when pregnant.

KatyMac · 21/03/2009 13:07

I think mine is in the range 70-80 over 50-55

But I went in last year and it was normal - the GP refused to consider that high

norksinmywaistband · 21/03/2009 13:11

They did seem to rush around and rush for the forceps at the point I went deaf - Perhaps thats why it all went a bit panicky

lou33 · 21/03/2009 14:51

i do remember after ovarian diathermy i had a bp of 75/25, which caused them to panic a bit

i believe the second number is more important wrt blood pressure
