A few weeks ago I noticed that the inside of my vagina was kind of pink and sticking out further than it used to on one side. I have just checked again and now the whole of the inside of it looks full of lumps and bumps. I'm extremely terrified and embarassed and I know I will have to make a doc's appointment next week, but can anyone calm me down in the meantime? I can't seem to stop compulsively checking it and it's making me panic even more.

Are you pregnant? Does it ache? I have had vulval varicosities with two pregnancies and they look ugly, very lumpy and bumpy. I'm sure it's possible to have them without being pregnant. Obviously you need to go to the Dr though

No, I'm not pregnant, my youngest child is 18 months. I don't think it looks like varicose veins, it more looks like a load of the flesh that should be up inside has fallen down further, if that makes sense.

It's possibly the onset of uterine prolapse. Not necessarily a medical emergency but you do need to get examined asap.

It's not that uncommon so hoping someone with specific experience can help out...

Please don't panic. I am not a medic but it sounds to me like it might be a little prolapse. This is where bits of you that should be higher up fall down a bit, to use a non-technical term! This is completely not unusual: indeed, according to NHS Direct some degree of prolapse affects up to 30% of women who've had children.

I would lay off the panic, stop looking at it, have a glass of wine to celebrate the end of the week and just pop and see the doc next week.

I have steered clear of mirrors since having my second DD (born hand first). What you describe sounds very familiar . I have been told it is a slight prolapse and I may have surgery at some point if it gets uncomfortable. Not dangerous though. You should get it checked out but don't panic.

Ditto Mummyella - I went to the doctor last week after cancelling two previous appointments. Was told it's a slight prolapse, may get worse as I get older but nothing to worry about for now. So I've stopped looking at it every time I go to the bathroom now. Doctor gave me some pelvic floor exercises to do to help but haven't done them yet (as I've only just remembered!). Don't worry but do get it checked out.

I think that with a prolapse there is a smallop that can fix it, but it's recommended to do it once you're done with childbearing. My cousin had one and she managed to sort itout completeley by being very very good about her pelvic floor exercises - her GP was very surprised!
