I have just been to see my dr who told me that I had a uterine and rectal wall prolapse. Lovely eh? So now waiting for my referral which knowing the NHS will take about 10 years to come through. So in mean time was wondering if anyone else has had either of these and if so how was it fixed? I have been told Ill probably be offered surgery, what does this do and how long will it take to recover? Sorry so long and lots of questions.

Thanks Mishka, I've got it a bit more in perspective now. Quite looking forward to a few days tied to a bed with some books. Someones given me a portable DVD player so I shall be taking a stock of films in, loads of books and CDs. It might actually be the most relaxation I've had in ...er...seven years!

Dsis and my mum are taking the kids out for the day when I go in, and she's also staying for a week to give Dh a hand, and to let him come up and see me whenever. So, fingers crossd it's going OK.

The only major cloud at the moment is that I'm only entitled to 4 weeks sick pay and i don't think I work enough hours to get SSP, so I might have to take time off unpaid or as holiday which is a bugger really.

Hi
I have a prolapse it involves my bladder and the abdominal wall (also retally but specialist not said anything or examined through the back for some reason)
I have also had those lovely bladder tests done,
as I am 30 and although I have had 3 children they were all tiny babies, so gynae says my tissues must be severely weak for me to be in such a state.

Because of this she is trying to delay surgery (I see her again for 3rd time in 6 moths time to dicuss surgery more)
she has refered me to physio but does not think there is much they can do so its more of deleying tactic.
She is putting me on medication for my bladder problems but does not think this will work either.
She says if they operate now it will keep prolapsing and will mean the start of a long line of operations including a separate one on the bladder, but if it is left it will get much worse and I will need a bigger op when I am older.

I also can't use tampons which she says makes sense, but when I told her sex is really painful, she could not see why???
Not being funny but my dh's thing is bigger than a tampon and you do not normally lie there pulling a tampon in and out do you? lol
She wants me to see a psychologist as she says painful sex could be psychological (I KNOW WHEN I AM IN PAIN!)

Ok countdown has begun....

I had my preop appointment last friday, which was quite reassuring in a funny kind of scarey way

The gyne nurses and doctors that I met were pretty damn fabulous, and although I'm still nervous, I know I'm going to be in good hands.

I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that I'm going to have to use up some of my holiday over this. I've been told I can not lift anything heavier than a full kettle for 6 weeks after the op, or I risk rupturing everything. This is going to be a great shock to DD who is going through a typical 18mth old clingy stage at the moment. Me and DH have been discussing strategies to get around this, he's taking another week off for starters, as until i can drive again I have no way of getting DSs to school. If I can't lift DD or a buggy I'm not even going to attempt taking 3 kids on a bus during rush hour.

We can work around the high chair thing, and we're going to put DD in a proper bed, just a little cot bed, so I don't have to lift her in and out. We've been talking about it for a while anyway, she's very tall and her cot is getting too cramped.

Anyway, sorry for rambling on and being very boring, but it helps to write this down. I'm keeping on top of everything by trying to plan for every eventuality pointless I know, but it keeps my brain occupied!

Oh yes, the consultant says that the op I'm having is essentially the vaginal rejuvination one that loads of posh people are paying thousands of pounds for....DH will be pleased

Get the little one to climb onto your knee rather than you pick them up - it's loads easier

Lots of luck

hi to all of you who have posted about this. i had a bladder prolapse 6 days after the birth of my dd and was told surgery was only option couldn't even walk for the pain but saw a brilliant physio the next day (i just rolled up at the hospital with bawling infant until i was seen!!)had a plastic ring pessary fitted which basically holds everything up!! and after really sticking to pelvic floor exercises am now ok. i know its not the same as having a rectal one so this is really info for anyone whos had a bladder one. it helps to do exercises on floor with feet up against sofa as gravity takes the weight off. also you need to be careful how you poo sorry to be so graphic i can expand on this if anyone is interested!!. i hope your surgery goes well serenity and i really empathise with how horrible all the poking about is

Right thats it. Todays the day [sad, but glad it's finally here face]

I'm just waiting for the admissions people to ring me back to confirm that there is a bed for me, then I'm off.....

No MN, what kind of week is that!?

Please think of me. I know in the grand scheme of things this is minor, but I'm pretty nervous.

Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish.

Im still waiting to get an appointment at the hospital, was told I could be waiting between 2-6 months to recieve an appointment!!! THe way things are going Ill be lucky if this is fix within the next 2 years!!
Really hope everything went well for you and it wasn't too painful for you, also hope that maybe your boss cut you some slack so you won't have to use all your own holidays. take care

Hi Mishka, thanks for asking. I've been seeing how long I can do cold turkey on MN for and I've finally broken and come back on this weekend! I tried sooooooo hard.....

Op was Ok. I was really unprepared for the aftermath though. I kind of expected to be in pain from the stitches etc but they haven't really hurt at all. What I really did was ache, like I was one big bruise from front to back and I found it very draining. For at least the first week afterwards I kept having afternoon naps.
I've had a couple of set backs, but nothing too major. I got really really bad constipation despite being on lactulose and fibogel, and ended up in tears down the phone to my gp. Dh had to do an emergency suppository run for me (sorry if TMI, but it might help you avoid the same thing) which was wonderful I'm a bit worried I might have messed something up down there though. I'm also on antibiotics atm as I've got a bit of an infection but it's cleared up pretty quickly, GP said it was only to be expected.

My major gripe is that I'm meant to have a 6 week post op check up, my appointment has come through for the 16 of september ! Luckily my GP is a star and she's faxed the consultant to get me seen earlier. I want someone to have a look and tell me it's all fine, and will be 'normal' soon. I had a tentative feel (far too scared to look) and it's a bit like frankenstein's fanny down there (I can feel stitches FFS!) I did get a bit upset, but Dh keeps reminding me it's only been 2 and a half weeks, so I'm expecting too much too soon.

Anyway, sorry if I've grossed you out, but i've found the hardest thing is not knowing what to expect. The nurses etc were lovely whilst I was in hospital, but I feel a bit abandoned now I'm out. Hopefully reading this will forewarn you and things will come as less of a surprise when you go in!
