Smears and pregnancy

I had my last smear when i was 4 weeks pregnant but didn't know at the time. when i mentioned it to the gp once i knew i was pregnant, he said it would need to be repeated once i had given birth as the results may not be accurate. i have mentioned this two or three times since i had ds (now 7mths) but noone is making anything of it!

does anyone know if pregnancy can affect the results and should i push for another one??

I was given my smear at my 6 week check.
I have no idea of how pg affects the results, but I would ask for another. Book in with the nurse at your practice. You don't need to go through the gp.

If it was negative/normal recall then you wouldn't need to have another one post-natally unless you are on more frequent tests if you'd had a an abnormal test before.
Hormonal changes do make cells look different but not sufficiently at that stage of pregnancy. I work in a lab and that's a new one on me! If a practice rang and asked (so long as your history is negative) I don't think we'd tell them to do another.
If you're worried or have any symptoms you should always see your GP.

i would push for another one

i read somewhere that jades cancer was sped up because of her hormones from when she was preg with jacks baby and then had a mc

can you not just book yourself in for one?

blondes - it's thought that cancers may develop more during pregnancy. AFAIK there's no accepted link between pregnancy and developing abnormal cells.
National guidelines don't say anything particular about doing a pap test during/after pregnancy because of being pregnant per se. Years ago primary care used to take post-natal samples but now we say, if it's not due, it's not a reason to take an extra one.

but if yarrow was told to have her smear repeated then there must be a reason mustnt there?
