menstruation+ breast feeding

I've posted on Mumsnet a few times, but usually just read other talk threads with great interest (every night in fact!). Anyway, this is a bit of a long one that has been preying on my mind for some time. You're all so supportive I'm confident I'll get some good advice. To cut it short, I'm a single mum DESPERATE to conceive again. My first hurdle is to kick start my cycle- no periods since Jan 2006. I think the main reason is the extended breast-feeding, (my DD is 2.5 yrs) but does anyone have any advice about herbal reemedies etc for kick-starting menstruation? Although I'm 36, I'm quite confident this is not early menopause as my periods have been erratic at the best of times. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

i don't have any personal advice as not been in the same situation.
however I know a couple of people on another website (www.iwantmymum.com if you're interested!) who have really struggled with the same issue and nothing has helped until their child has at least cut down on feeding.

I hope I don't offend with the next bit but:
how are you planning on conceiving? if you're waiting for mr right to come along (and assuming he's not on the horizon just yet?) then I guess I would say not to worry until he arrives! cos your dd may well have weaned by then anyway.
if, however, you are thinking of other methods of becoming pregnant then I do think that the cutting down of feeds/weaning is the key.

Thanks, thisisyesterday. I don't have a particular plan to conceive really- Mr. Right is the fantasy of course! I have cut down signifcantly on feeding, but DD still feeds 3x, at least, in 24 hours. Too much, you think?
