He has a bad sore throat and a terrible mouth ulcer. He can't eat and he loves his food . He's been trying to eat with his sister tonight but the ulcer is obviously causing him agony.

I have no idea what to do with mouth ulcers. Any tips? I am prone to getting them too but a little bit of searing pain is not usually enough to stop me eating .

boots sell anaethsetic throat lozenges that are very numbing and I use them for mouth ulcers - they do work

Try clove oil

Or a dab of soap#

They are V painful - poor little boy

poor lad. Could he suck on ice lollies to cool it / numb it a bit?

has he had bonjela?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 18/03/2009 18:06

Ice lollies to soothe his throat, and to get some fluids into him

I read somewhere that zinc might help mouth ulcers, not sure.

Have you seen a dentist re the ulcer?

awwww

Too much orange juice? Poor boy!

Your poor DS, I really feel for him, I've always suffered with mouth ulcers.

In my experience bonjela, lozenges etc don't really do much, just soothe a bit.

Give him something like chicken or mushroom soup (nothing even slightly acidic) and ice cream will help.

i think anbesol is the best thing for ulcers

the best thing, I've found, for mouth ulcers is salt. I'd NEVER do that to a child though, cos feck me it hurts!

Thanks all. I gave him a cup of iced water to sip and a merocaine lozenge. He went back to the table and ate a fair amount of dinner (thank goodness I hadn't binned it) and cheered up considerably. He was just so utterly dismayed at having to miss his tucker before! And DH is stopping off at Sainsbos pharmacy en route home. Thanks for the tips ladies, he is in a bit of a sorry state, poor little man.
