I agree that that study is very speculative, although I agree it was worth mentioning, dinosaur. It doesn't really hold water, I don't think, and my view would be that when you're dealing with 4 year olds it shouldn't be too much of a concern anyway, compared with babies. I think co-amoxiclav, which is what my dd mainly had, is another name for the clavuranic acid in augmentin. Let's hope it does the trick.

Marina, your poor dd too. I react really badly to trimethoprim so I'm glad dd never had to have it just in case. It sounds like it's doing the business though I've already said this to Aimsmum, but just from the POV of light at the end of the tunnel, dd had a burst eardrum about 10 times before she was two, but it's only happened twice in the last 2 years, so it does get better as they get older. Hugs to you all

You take the Solgar for 2 weeks after you finish the course of anti-bs, Aimsmum (or so I was told and that seems to work). It's not stocked by Boots or Holland and Barrett - well not in England anyway - I got ours from a big independent health food shop. You need to refrigerate it once opened but it keeps for yonks.
Thanks Tamum , HMo2 and Aimsmum and I feel very down about it at times I think it is fair to say. The mess, the worry something "bigger" is being missed, the stress about optimum speech development, the concern about overuse of ABs...argh.
Luckily dd doesn't react to Trimethoprim badly, and even doesn't seem to object to the unmistakeably acrid taste.
