Also known as those dry sore itchy unsightly bits around your mouth - usually associated with cold weather & licking your lips too much....I've been suffering with this now for about 2 months - been to the Dr, had a cream (forgotten which one) prescribed which I had a bad reaction to (lips & face swelled up like a cartoon villain!) had another cream - "Muciderm" which worked to a degree, but hasn't really solved the problem. I've been BF'ing for 6 months, & am a bit "run down" which I'm sure doesn't help, but has anyone else got any experience of beating this? I'm fed up! It looks awful too (also as I live in France & it's normal to kiss everyone at school I haven't done & everyone starting to think I've fallen out with them!) Help, please!

I don't know if you can get it in France, but Melrose applied all the time and most especially before bed will(should)clear it up really quickly. I use it on all things sore/cut/grazed/cracked and peeling. Over here it's available in smaller chemists.

Please let me know if you can't get it, but would like to and I will try to help you get it.

My usual posting name is solo.

I've found that for any mouth sores, a B vitamin supplement and especially a zinc supplement helps very quickly.

Thank you both for your suggestions, I have zinc tablets here, so will have one after breakfast! I'll try & find Melrose here too, let you know how I get on....thanks again

Are you still taking your prenatal vitamins? They should really be called prenatal and nursing vitamins. Really, mums should take them at least until they're done breast-feeding. They'll help with that run-down feeling (and I know nothing about that ), so would taking fish oil capsules.

Trying to think what else you could do that will help quickly - I'd suggest Sudocrem because it contains zinc but it can be rather drying... maybe worth a try though?
Good luck!

Thanks again Jacksmama, I hadn't really been taking any vitamins at all, so will step that up this week & see if it helps...am thinking a lot more sleep would probably help too! I'm going to try & find the "Melrose" cream too...

Sleep??? What's that??
Must be something they do in France...

Here's some more information I found for you.

solowitch · 15/03/2009 23:33

jenpet, it isn't cream, it's a balm.

Melrose skin care.
Soothes lips and dry rough flakey skin.
Contains Lanolin, hard and soft yellow paraffin and oil of lemongrass.
Not tested on animals.

from what I can tell, it doesn't seem to be available in France. You could try this.

If you still have difficulty in obtaining MELROSE please email or telephone/fax 01844 339448

Hope that helps. I've cut and pasted some testimonials that may show you why I'm so enthusiastic about it.

The following paragraphs are extracts from letters of genuine customers.
I have a daughter of thirteen who swims competitively for Macclesfield. Last August, she developed what was described by our local G.P. as hand eczema, bought about, no doubt, by the chemicals in the swimming pools she was going to. She was prescribed steroid cream - didn't work! A second visit to the G.P., stronger steroid cream - didn't work! A visit to an eminent skin specialist, with more treatment - didn't work. A visit to my homoeopathic doctor - better results, but flared up again after the treatment finished.

Back to the doctors, more and stronger steroid cream - didn't work. Another visit to the homoeopathic doctor - same results as last time. Then my mother suggested an 'old fashioned remedy' - MELROSE. Instant success! I cannot say that it has cleared completely, but the relief it has given my daughter is incredible. Within twenty four hours the terrible cracks were healing, and she could rub her fingers on her face without them scratching it.

Mrs W. - a grateful parent

I have been a user of MELROSE for many years. It has been the only thing suitable for my skin.

...it is the only product that helps my husbands skin complaint. He was first introduced to it by a health shop when we lived in Sheffield. He has had medication from the hospital which did nothing to help. MELROSE is the only thing to help him.

Wow! Right, DH is in the UK for 10 days, I'll get him on the Melrose trail! The wikipedia page was interesting too (although I don't think it's my dentures causing it ) I've also got DS2 to take some ebm out of a sippy cup today (total bottle refuser!) so possibly cutting down the bf'ing now, combined with a good supplement & the Melrose should hopefully see an improvement. I'm not sure if it's because of the glorious sun today & I'm just in a better mood, but I actually felt it was slightly better (or maybe it was the two zinc tablets?! ) Thank you again...
