Not sure about quickly, but restrict carbs and eat veg and lean meat?

jooseyfruit · 12/03/2009 09:22

water and exercise.

lots of water and walk about.

jooseyfruit · 12/03/2009 09:25

hope everything's o.k?

Oblomov · 12/03/2009 09:37

Exercise.
Water makes minimal difference.
Appreciate you are on phone, but why would you need to do this ? a bit worrying. I am a diabetic.

oops, am on proper pc now and see I have managed to post this several times.

everything is ok i think. am quite pregnant and keep feeling very ill in mornings. I suddenly realised this morning that it seems to be a lot worse when I've had something sugary for breakfast so figured it might be high blood sugar levels?

However, now I have googled my symptoms seem to match more with low blood sugar.

anyway, it could be something entirely unrelated, so I do apologise for posting 3 times and then disappearing. (and also posting without proper research first lol)

Correction to previous post. Nothing lowers blood sugars quickly. Even insulin takes quite some time to be absorbed and effective.

god I shouldn't google cos am now convincing myself I have gestational diabetes.

Oblomov · 12/03/2009 09:47

Are yuo sure you haven't got gestational diabtetes ?

thisisyesterday · 12/03/2009 09:50

fast heartbeat, feeling really tired/weak, looking pale (so my mother says lol), irritable (though could be lack of sleep)

GI diet books will tell you what to eat to maintain a more level blood sugar (oats are great, oatcakes, porridge etc). Avoid refined carbs (sugary stuff, pasta, bread, white rice)and try to eat "whole" foods, as a general guideline. But do check your symptoms with Oblomov, she is expert on this!

i ws going to turn down the GTT test this pg, but maybe will go for it after all!

if you are not diabetic your body will adjust your blood sugar

go and ahve a drink ofwater - you soulnd dehydrated

Eating onions helps stabilize blood sugar - research is still going on but apparently it's the allyl propyl disulfide (whatever that is!) that is the key. If you ate some onion with your evening meal it may help stablize your blood sugar in the morning. It does work.

How pregnant are you? You could ask about getting a GD screening. Probably a good idea to talk to your midwife/GP anyway if you aren't feeling right.

It could be GD. Mind you, I had GD and felt absolutely fine whatever my blood sugar was doing. General advice is as others have said -- eat a low GI diet with snacks between meals (if I didn't have snacks my blood sugar dropped too low) and include some protein every time you eat.

flamingtoaster · 12/03/2009 09:56

Are you sure your blood sugar is not crashing after the initial sugary breakfast - that would produce the symptoms you are experiencing.

Oblomov · 12/03/2009 09:57

Sounds like low blood sugar.
Saying that. Could be VERY high blood sugar aswell.
Are these symptoms that you are describing, how you feel when you first wake up aswell ? Or are they ONLy post breakfast ?
I think we all know what you need to do here though
You need to talk to GP/pregnancy team. Am sure they will atleast do blood sugar tests to eliminate gest threat.

am 28 weeks pregnant. I do have the form here to go for the Glucose tolerance test. as I say, I wasn't going to go but I think I might, jsut to be sure.
that said I had the same thing during my last pregnancy and nothing showed up on the blood tests.

It's def a post-breakfast thing. and definitely worse when I have had something like marmalade on white toast.
I thought it was an iron thing as I am anaemic, so have been glugging huge quantities of orange juice with my supplements too.
then suddenly this morning I realised that I always feel worse after eating stuff like this
