I've been on it about 4-5 months now and instead of my periods slowing.. I'm now having a bleed pretty much once a fotnight - they alternate between very light and moderate/normal

is it my body still getting used to it or do you think I shgould speak to GP next time I go.. It's more of an annoyance than a concern iykwim

downside is I'm running out of options if they take me off this one and other than this I am loving this mini-pill.. everything about it is fab

anyone else on the mini-pill who can let me know their experience/thoughts

Thank-you

I bled and bled and bled like that on the mini-pill. Couldn't deal with all that bleeding and it wasn't for me in the end.

ALL progesten-only contraception made me bleed too much.

TotalChaos · 12/03/2009 09:21

when I started cerazette, for the first year I would either get periods every fortnight or every couple of months - then after a year my periods stopped - so if you can cope with the bleeding, maybe worth giving your body longer to adapt.

ohdearwhatamess · 12/03/2009 09:34

I bled pretty much non-stop on the mini-pill (and felt very grumpy and low too). I tried for 6 months, and it just didn't agree with me.

I changed to the combined pill and have no problems now.

I take the mini pill and was told I could bleed loads. Bled for about a day in the first month and haven't since. Took it because it sorted my migraines. Saying that, my sister bled constantly and got headaches. I'd say talk to your doctor as they'll know if you should worry or not.

mascaraohara · 12/03/2009 10:19

I refuse to go back onto the combined pill since they stopped making the only one that didn't give me crippling migraines which saw me forced inbto bed for 2-3 days of each month.

I'm really happy on the mini-pill my moods are even and feel like I'm in a natural cycle. it sounds like it can take a while to bed down so will continue taking it, if this is still happening when I go for my repeat perscription I'll mention it.

Like I say one is v light, without getting gross (think only need a p/liner, rather than anything specific) and the other is like a normal bleed which for me have always been relatively light

I'm on femulen

That (more frequent bleeding) is also very common, although they don't tend to mention it so much when they are plugging the mini-pill . For most women apparently it settles down in a few months. It never did for me (used mini-pill for several years pre-DCs) which is why I am done with hormonal contraception now.

mascaraohara · 12/03/2009 10:27

P&L can I ask what you use now. sorry.

If mini pill doesn't work I am only being offered diaphram(sp?)/condoms neither of which I want as a long term contraceptive solution

i'm on cerazzette due to heavy bleeding bad pains constant anemia it took good 9 mths for bleeding to stop then my body started rejecting it as it always does and bleeding returned i now take 2 pills a day and no bleeding at all for last 2 yrs

you have to allow certain amount of time for your body to get used to it took mine 9 mths but was worth it as now i have none at all

mascaraohara · 12/03/2009 12:53

I'm going to persevre.. like i said, it's just an annoyance. Fingers crossed it settles down quickly

what mini-pill are you on? There are several types of mini-pill and a different one may suit you better. I had fortnightly periods with femulen and micronor but havent had a period in over a year with cerazette. Cerazette is the most likely to stop you bleeding but has the opposite effect in some women.

See here

Stinkyfeet · 12/03/2009 13:40

I've been on cerazette for about 9 months and have no bleeding at all. I say this to provide a balanced view, and not to sound smug (I hope )!

PortAndLemon · 12/03/2009 22:09

Um. That's the drawback. When I'm breastfeeding and not having periods we use condoms (which I really don't like as a long-term option (or even as a short-term solution, to be honest)). When my periods are back we manage fine with NFP (i.e. charting temperature and CM) no slip-ups between DS and DD but that's with the proviso that another pregnancy wouldn't be a disaster (I might add in Persona this time as well once my periods restart). If and when we decide that we definitely don't want any more children DH will get the snip. I did consider the non-hormonal coil but chickened out of getting one fitted. I keep hoping the male pill will finally get licensed, but I guess it's not happening in my reproductive lifetime.

Technofairy · 14/03/2009 00:12

I've been on the mini pill for the best part of 20 years, I take Norgeston, and I have fairly light to normal periods. They last about 4 days and I have minimal symptoms - my boobs are tender for a couple of days a week before I start and I get the occasional migraine when I'm on but that's it. My cycle is only 26 days though - on the dot - and it did use to be slightly longer.

Perhaps you should ask to try another brand of mini pill, it took me a while to find one that suited me as well as this.

And if you're using the safe period don't forget that the new advice - I think anyway, some doc on tv said so - is that sperm actually lives 5-7 days inside you and not 3-5 as previously thought! Those 2 days can make all the difference!!

piratecat · 14/03/2009 00:45

yeah, try another brand. They can differ. I have no periods at all on cerazete. no mood swings, nothing. I flatline

this is great as it's helped with my spd, becuase my hormones seem regular.

Nic835K · 10/08/2010 23:07

I am on femulen and have been for about 1yr now. The mini pill is the only form of hormonal contraceptive that i can take due to a blood clotting problem. But recently my mood is extremely low and changable and bleeding extremely heavy with very bad pains. This pill is my last hope as other mini pills don t seem to agree with me. Bit worried about going to gp as i think only option left is one myself and my husband really dont want, condoms. Any advice? Confused
