There must be something else I can use to stop the itching of thrush?

Canesten cream just isn't stopping it and I can't sit still. Help please!

live yoghurt? cooling too

I have heard that applying tea tree oil can help. Not sure about how 'neat' you need to use it though.

Try having a bath with some tea tree oil in and see if that helps, or mixing some tea tree oil with a neutral oil.

LoveMyGirls · 11/03/2009 20:39

The pessary and cream? There is an oral tablet too I think?

Good luck that it stops soon!

Bluestocking · 11/03/2009 20:39

This might be a bit too gross but it does work. Get some plain, preferably live, yogurt, nice and cold from the fridge, and put it inside.

But definitely go and get some Diflucan (or Boots/Tesco alternative, as it's much cheaper).

Germolene can also give temporary relief as it has a local anaesthetic in it.

Am off to sainburys for yogurt. Thanks!

second the live (natural) yoghurt! cool and soothing, straight from the fridge...

compo · 11/03/2009 20:41

are you on the pill? that can alter the natural balance of things down below

mankyscotslass · 11/03/2009 20:41

Yoghurt worked for me, but while I was waiting I admit to sitting on an ice bag..it was bliss.

KnitterInTheNW · 11/03/2009 21:12

Ok... yog has eased it a bit. I have garlic and tea tree inside and will go see the doc tomorrow. Pharmacist wouldn't sell me an oral treatment because I'm diabetes. The diabetes combined with antibiotics is what's caused it.

{grin] at ScarletA, the thought of using strawberry or toffee yogurt is making me chuckle!

Death would help.
Sorry, I've been there, and understand your agony.

Much sympathy.

fernjem · 13/03/2009 21:33

It may sound silly but i find canesten actually aggrivates the thrush symptoms, it may get rid of the infection but can cause irritation itself. tea tree/salt baths and diflucan usually do the trick

Cold water on a very strong shower setting.

Nothing quite so relieving - it feels like you are washing the itch away!

BoffinMum · 14/03/2009 12:28

Try a Piriton tablet if you have some. Also try a tepid bath with some bicarbonate of soda in it. On prescription, Trimovate cream is good if not pg - steroids, anti fungal and antibiotic all in one handy dollop.

brettgirl2 · 14/03/2009 15:23

Why not go to the chemist and get Fluconazole? Unless like me and boffinmum you are pregnant! This treatment works IME - I messed around with alternative treatments for ages.

BoffinMum · 14/03/2009 15:43

That is indeed good stuff BrettGirl and has helped me. But a minor health warning. I once got accidentally pg taking this it as it messed up the readings on my (dratted) Persona machine.

They keep that very quiet. Nasty Unipath.

If none of this works you can buy vagisil cream from the chemist for about £6. It does nothing to cure the thrush but it relieves the itching instantly and for about 4 hours. It's basically lidocaine cream, a local anaesthetic. I practically bathed in the stuff in my last pregnancy (it is safe for pg and BF). Poor you, it is grim I know.
