Coughing blood

Not sure whos on line but I wanted to reassure myself before I take dd to the docs. She's had a restless night and when I looked in on her at 5.00 this morning she had blood all over her pillow and sheets. It looks as though its mixed with phlem (sorry to anyone squeamish) so I can't work out if she coughed it up or threw it up. She's only 3 and although I've asked her she doesn't know how it go there and got very upset at it. I'm off to the docs at 10.40 but I really don't trust them there and wanted to know other people's opinions or ideas. My first reaction is of course "Oh my God" but I haven't see anything since. Her temperature is permanently around 38 - so not particularly high but she's really droopy. Hoping someone's on line with some ideas or experience of this.

It is not unusual for a blood vessel near the throat to bleed during a fit of coughing. Definately should be checked out because there may be an infection there that needs antibiotics. That might be the cause of her temperature. However, it might not be anything other than the effort of coughing. Hope you have a reassuring visit to GP. Make sure you ask everything that worries you so that you come away confident in the diagnosis.

Thank you mears - it prepared me for what she said. Basically she couldn't find a source but was very concerned about her ears (although dd has not complained about them funnily enough). She told me that blood does get coughed up and as her chest sounded clear and she didn't react to being proded in the stomach she was content that it wasn't serious. However she was concerned about her floppiness (dd feel asleep three times during her examination) but this can't be a high temp as she was 39. So she's given me stronger antibiotics and told me to watch her carefully and go back tomorrow evening/saturday morning if she gets worse. Seeing the blood sure did make me panic!
