My periods have all of a sudden gone irregular... WHY?!

Last month my period was 16 days late. Had swabs, and a pelvic scan and everything came back normal. So, I was due on again yesterday and haven't had a single symptom to indicate that I'm about to start. I usually have BAD PMT, painful boobs, cramps for 3-4 days prior to being due on.

Dr told me to give it time but what the hell is causing it? I was planning on trying for a baby this year and THIS happens!

Feeling very anxious and worried about it all

Should have mentioned I'm 23.

Hi,

What they failed to do were blood tests - those should have been done first and foremost to see what your hormone levels are like. A condition called polycystic ovaries can cause periods to become irregular as can problems with the thyroid gland. Both of these can be checked for via blood tests.
An internal ultrasound scan could be done to see what your ovaries and uterine cavity look like (polycystic ovaries can appear larger than normal walnut size and have multiple cystic follicles on them. These do disappear only to be replaced by further cystic follicles).

Such problems as well do not go away of their own accord - the cause needs to be ascertained sooner rather than later.

Do not be fobbed off and ask for blood tests (these should be done around day 3; if periods are irregular the test can be done according to the calendar day).

If GP continues to be unhelpful would reregister with another GP practice.

I had all that done. I've just spoken to my GP. She talked me through my scan/blood results. She basically said it's hormonal and the more I stress about it, the longer the delay.

Ah, you did not mention blood tests.

Can you remember what the blood test results were?. What hormones were tested?.

If they are actually indicative of PCO or thyroid problems then it warrants further investigation by a gynae instead of being fobbed off by saying the more you stress about it the longer the delay. These problems if present do not work like that.

Can I ask what weight you are, and height. If you are severely under/over weight it can affect your periods.
