following on from this thread.

I saw a med student first, then the real-deal doc, and basically the med student looked bemused by me, and my doc thought me amusing.

I obviously have some hitherto unheard of 'psycho-itus', and there will be great texts written about me..............

on a serious note, the student drained my blood took three vials of blood, and is testing kidney function, liver function, thyroid, infection, inflammation, plus full blood count to see if I am anaemic, and they have booked me in to see me next friday and go from there.

shame really that the all-singing, all-dancing, diagnosis gremlin had left the building, cos the DX right now is that I have lost my oomph and they know not where.

good news is that I am clearly not suffering from a deathly disease.

I hope!

oh, and they think my coil will need changing cos my endo is beginning to show symptoms again they think, going on the soreness still. but that is for another day, cos I crossed my legs tight at that one!

Good news is also that they are taking it seriously and are going to find out what it is. Better to take lots of blood and test everything than to have a theory, test for one thing, find out it's wrong, have another idea, test for that, etc.

In the meantime all the psychochildren have to be very nice to mummy - this is a good time for teenagers to practise being grownups and doing grownup things like cooking and cleaning?

psychomum5 · 06/03/2009 10:39

oh no, I value my life kitchen far too much to allow them control to experiment with cooking and tidying in my house.

If you saw the state of their bedrooms, you would not even suggest that either....

DH is being fab tho, and the girls can help by not being arguementative and winding up the boys ((as if)).

the docs are ensuring top care tho, which I am glad for. they didn;t laugh me out of the office at least.

and I didn;t have to do another wee sample either, cos the bloods should cover anything checked for anyway. plus, the real doc said he would be extremely shocked if there was any infection left to find in my urine anyway going on the strength of the meds they prescibed.

OP posts:
DrTrillianAstra · 06/03/2009 10:46

I hate doing wee samples, they give you a tiny tube to pee into and I'm not exactly practised in aiming my wee.

If I had that many I don't think I could survive without putting them to work. I hope they go to relaxed-uniform schools with polo shirts or something, when I was 13 or 14 I got put in charge of doing all the ironing and all the white shirts for school were a pain with only 2 of us!

psychomum5 · 06/03/2009 10:52

oh, they do help around the house, and DD2 actually asked to do the ironing for me the other day.

well, she was actually asked to sort out the basket of undies (and with 7 people to sort for, it is a chore let me tell you), I think the ironing was seen to be easier!

and no, they all have shirts/blouses. yes they are hell to iron, but normally a quick tumble and then me folding them flat straight after helps lots.

I have started a bribe incentive for the girls and their bedrooms tho..........said I would give them an extra £5 a month if they keep it sorted without me nagging them, especially putting the clothes away instead of using them up from on the floor.

OP posts:
DrTrillianAstra · 06/03/2009 11:05

Wow, not bad. Ironing is one of the better jobs as you can put the TV on while you do it

That said I don't iron at all at the moment, but that might change if I get the smart-clothes job I have applied for.

psychomum5 · 06/03/2009 11:09

yes, I like ironing for that reason too. I put on a DVD tho, as the ads irritate me!

so, smart-clothes job?? what does that entail then??

OP posts:
DrTrillianAstra · 06/03/2009 11:19

A smart-clothes job is one where you work in an office rather than a lab, especially since the people in my lab had a tendency to go 'oooh, are you going out later' if you progressed beyond jeans+vest+zip-up-jumper.

The particular one I'm going for is for a heathcare consultancy firm, they go into pharma companies and look at the drugs they have developed, read about how the clinical trials have gone, look at published data on other similar drugs, an then make presentations and reports that can be understood by doctors and by advisory boards (like NICE, who tell the NHS what to do). It's mostly about how the new drug is different to (and hopefully better than) currently available drugs. It might treat the disease better, or it might be equally good at making you feel better but have some other feature that makes it more desirable, for example having to take a pill once a day instead of 3 times a day, or having fewer side-effects, or being a pill rather than an injection.

psychomum5 · 06/03/2009 12:01

oooh......does the office have walls, and window??

and oooh about the pharma-drug-comapany-job. sounds interesting. I like medical things like that. in another life I would have liked to train as a forensic person......

OP posts:
DrTrillianAstra · 06/03/2009 12:36

You've been reading too much Scarpetta (or maybe Lincoln Rhyme ), forensics is either a smelly job or a boringly repetitive one, no diferent to analysing samples in hospital. I don't think you don't really get to investigate very much.

I haven't actually seen the office yet, not even sure if it technically exists, this company is very new (there will be about 3 or 4 of us at most to start off with) and until recently it was operating out of someone's house.

psychomum5 · 06/03/2009 20:37

do you think so kerry???

I am seriously thinking of having it out and not having another I have to say. tis since the coil was put in that my allergies have gotten worse, and my oomph has been missing!

no, I think you have a point.

it is a foreign object, which bodies do not like, and I didn't want it in the first place (but was persuaded due to endo issues), so would be not be sad to see it go.

well, I say that.............am terrified of the pain when they DO remove it!!

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 06/03/2009 22:08

I agree with Kerry

I had dreadful illnesses one after the other and it also felt like an allergy to me.

Had the coil taken out and it took time to come right but I did in the end. They think I may have started to develop an allergy to it though it's v rare.

Anyway, whatever it is, I hope you feel better soon!
