I think a lot of migraines produce that tingling and can also cause numbness >i had a horrendous migraine once and dp took me to a&e as I had a tingling arm and numbness on my face.they even did a lumbar puncture. It was a migraine.Have you tried normal solube aspirin with another strong painkiller? That is what they suggested for mine

LucyEllensmummy · 05/03/2009 19:13

I used to suffer from migraine and its horrible. I have also suffered with pins and needles and i never associated the two things until i read it on here So apparently it is quite common.

Do you know what your triggers are? Maybe you could think about what you might have eaten/drunk near the time of your attack and write it down - might help to identify some triggers.

LucyEllensmummy · 05/03/2009 19:14

the asprin idea is a good one, but don't mix it with ibruprofen. Ibruprofen and paracetemol are a good mix. Do you get the flashing light warning? I always tend to get flashing lights when i close my eyes the night before, then the next day i feel like im going down with the flu its pants.

I always took syndol and it works but not fully and tbh I was just relieved with the relaxed knocked out feeling it gave as the pain was still there but more bearable but adding the aspirin really helped

Saltire · 05/03/2009 19:27

I take Syndol for my Fibro - greeny suggested it on here. I take it with ibuoprofen.

Anyway, in answer to OP. Yes I do sometimes get Migraines that alst 24 (or more) hours, and I get numbness, but I get that anyway with my Fibromyalgia so never sure if the migraine causes it.

noddyholder · 05/03/2009 19:32

Syndol with soluble aspirin has been brilliant for me in the past but ibuprofen has a similar action so either would do.But it is def the soluble which does it quickly x

How are you Noddy? I haven't "seen" you around for a while.

noddyholder · 06/03/2009 09:16

i am really well saltire.I think I have finally got my tablets right -for now anyway!
How are you?

girlandboy · 06/03/2009 09:23

It was recommended to me by another mnetter that soluble aspirin was good. She was right. Especially if I hold each mouthfull of solution in my mouth for as long as I can. This apparently allows the drug to go through the mucus membranes of your cheeks, and therefore into your system very quickly.

The aspirin usually works about half of the time with me. If it doesn't then I have to hit the sumatriptan (Imigran) that the doctor prescribes for me. But then again, I am a martyr to the migraine/chronic daily headache syndrome! My current record is for 3 weeks of pain.

Saltire · 06/03/2009 09:27

Noddy - I've had better days TBH. DH is away just now for 4 months, and I am in the middle of a bad flare-up, first one in a long while. That and trying to cope with 2 toerags DSes is hard going.
I'm glad you are well though. you must be pleased you have your meds sorted

MrsRecycle · 06/03/2009 09:31

I had this (still have it occasionally) and after an xray on my neck turned out I had servical spondolicious (sp). Had a few sessions with a physio on my neck and migraines went. However when they do reapper, I use a special neck pillow (very hard), a bit uncomfortable initially but at least no migraines.

OracleInaCoracle · 06/03/2009 09:35

thanks. usually get pressure behind eyes first, they always feel really bulgy and sore. legs feel heavy and coordination is all out then migraine (unable to handle light/movement, numb hands and arm) then as it eases pins and needles. dont eat eat cheese/chocolate because it triggers one, but often just starts up for no reason.

saltire, my mum has fibromyalgia. really struggles with it too.

My migraines start with a flashing zigzag across each eye, then a blind spot appears. The migraine can follow anything up to 12 hours later.
Lissie - does your mum have pain all the time, or does she get flare ups of it? I have a constant pain all the time, then what I call my flare up pain every so often!

OracleInaCoracle · 06/03/2009 09:39

pain all the time with flare ups. its mainly in her knees, so she needs a walking stick now.

If syndol or paramol (another horse-strength painkiller) don't work, get a prescription for one of the tryptans...I take sumatryptan (over the counter it's imigran) and it's changed my life...literally....I used to get the 24 hr ones once a month- between ovulation and period, with vomiting...Now I've had one (last Friday) in the past 18mths- and that was because I hadn't recognised the headache on Thursday night for what it was and just took 2 paracetomol instead of the imigran.

My chiropractor (gippy shoulders) told me often back/shoulder pain and migraine are related and can often be helped by osteopathy, cranial osteopathy and chiropractice....so maybe that would also help with the fibromyalgia?
