Bleeding after miscarriage

I had a miscarriage last Tuesday (9 days ago) and have been bleeidng ever since. I had a scan on Monday to rule out whether I have any retained tissue and the scan was clear. I haven't been bleeding heavily, it's more blood when I wipe after going to the loo and a few drops throughtout the day. The bleeding seems to ease off and I get hopeful it's on its way out, but then the next day it starts up again. I just want it to stop. It's a constant reminder of what's happened . Sometimes I wonder if it's my period but surely a period wouldn't start up straight after a miscarriage? I know what you will all say- go to the doctor but at the moment it's the last place I want to go. I have posted on the miscarriage board but don't want to keep inundating the women on there with my constant questions...

I'm so sorry.

I had 4 m/cs, and the first was very similar to what you describe...I bled in that way for nearly two weeks, then had very occasional spotting on and off for another week or two. It drove me nuts, but was perfectly normal - just a sign of my hormones being all over the place.

I wouldn't worry about inundating women going through the same thing with questions, iirc talking to others who'd been through the same thing was only ever helpful, including their questions.

Thinking of you, xx

Thanks Elibean, it's reassuring to know that what I'm describing is pretty "normal". I think I wil give myself another week and if it hasn't stopped will have to try and bring myself to go to the doctor. I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriges, it really is an awful thing to have to go through.

so long as you are not in pain which might suggest an infection, or bleeding heavily, I would think thats fine

sorry about your loss

Elibean · 05/03/2009 19:46

engelbart, that sounds like a plan

Hoping for you that it stops on its own, soon, and lets you get on with your life. Its very hard to do the emotional healing bit when your body isn't over it, ime.

You poor thing, I don't blame you for not wanting to go back to docs, but if you are worried why not try NHS Direct? They might put your mind at rest.
