Is there anybody on here who has been diagnosed with premature ovarian failure

I desperately need to talk to someone who is in a similar situation as I feel as though I am the only one in the world.
I was diagnosed by my infertility clinic after 14 months of ttc with no luck.
Please is there anyone on here with the same problem.

Just bumping for you - try the TTC thread and you may get more response.
Not sure if it's the same but my friend on IVF has just been told she is not producing any more eggs and they are not responding to the treatment - she's 38/39

I was, lostit, but was probably older than you....d'you mind me asking how old you are? I would second trying the TTC thread, or can tell you about excellent fertility related message boards which I used during treatment. You are soo far from being the only in the world, but I remember feeling exactly that - probably because I was the only one (as far as I knew) in MY world. Very rough, when you're ttc.

I am 38 Elibean I am so upset about it all.
How old was you.

I was 41 when they said 'probably not worth continuing with treatment' but tbh, I think I was at the most 39 when it happened.

Do you have children? Not that that necessarily makes it better at all, just different! And have they discussed your options with you?

please could you tell me how they find out that you have premature ovarian failure ?

losittoday · 06/03/2009 16:28

Hi
beanieb
They generally diagnose it if you are experiencing asbent periods for a few months at a time coupled with a very high fsh reading mine was 62. I think it has to be over 30 to confirm a diagnosis of pof.
They shouldn,t just rely on one fsh reading at least two should be obtained.
This together with low estrogen and the asbent periods is usually enough.
You would also get physical signs as though you were going through menopause such as hot flushes etc.
I have one dc Elibean who is now 8.
I have been told to take a months supply of hrt each time my periods stop to get my ovaries working again and it does appear to work, but I only get my periods back for about 3 months each time and then I have take it again.
I have been told that if the hrt no longer brings back my periods then I will have reached menopause and that having this condition makes me more likely to go through meno early and that point I have to go on hrt permanently.
I really cannot face that as I so desperately want another dc and I dread this happening.

Hi,

The Daisy Network is the UK based charity designed to support women with POF.

Link is below:-

I was going to post that, Attila, thank you.

lostit, I really hope the hrt helps...wish I had a magic wand

I just turned 39 and was diagnosed with POF last year. My highest FSH was 113! I just went to the daisynetwork.org.uk but find it's info to be unbalanced when compared to other sites that gave me much help: earlymenopause.com and pofsupport.org
Check those out. POF is NOT menopause - we have up to 10% chance of conceiving naturally after diagnosis. Since going on HRT I've ovulated several times so there is always hope!
Good luck!
