I know, I know I'm being daft but I dunnoe I don't think I'm so much worried about the test itself, hehyho had people looking up my fanjo before but more the results and okay actually the test is worrying me a bit does it hurt?

Sorry am 22 and this my first smear never actually intended to get one am another on the 'I was convinced by what is happenening to Jade' stories. It's just scared me so much not so much about me but more the thought of my son growing up without me.

So hopefully it will come back fine and I can put my mind at rest and I

it shouldn't hurt but it may feel a bit uncomfortable

my last smear was over so fast i barely noticed

good luck - you are doing the right thing

missingtheaction · 05/03/2009 11:26

it's fine. it doesn't hurt but it does feel a bit odd - someone sliding a speculum up your fanjo and then wiping off the inner goo with a lolly stick just isn't what your body expects on a thursday morning.

You know it makes sense

You'll be fine, and you are doing the right thing, well done.

The test is really quick and easy. I've never had one that hurt. A bit cold sometimes, but never anything worse! They use a little brush now to get the cells, which isn't painful at all.

DrTrillianAstra · 05/03/2009 11:30

In my area they don't start until 25 unless you have reason to request one as apparently younger women often have 'unusual results' that turn out to be absolutely nothing.

It's a good test to have, and it is only a little bit weird-feeling rather than painful.

Even if you get a letter saying something might be up don't worry as most of the time it will turn out to not be a problem.

And when you most likely get th letter saying the test was normal you'll feel sooo much better.

BlueCowWonderss · 05/03/2009 11:32

you'll have to lay down with your ankles together and knees bent up and out. As everyone has said, it's uncomfortable and weird, but if you go to see a nurse, they generally warm the speculum first (cos they're women and know just what it's like!)

It's over very fast, and my easiest one was when I was holding a small baby on my lap! Talk about distraction!

mamadiva · 05/03/2009 11:38

LOL @ BlueCow,

Thanks everyone I don't have any symptoms or anything just thought would be a good idea to start going now it is'nt until 5.15 this evening but if I dont go now I never will LOL.

I am in the Highlands so it starts at 20 I think have been offerred befrore but did'nt go as was unsure about it all.

I am going myself so no distraction and oping it's a woman as the nerves will start to get the better of me if not is at the Well womans clinic so assuming it will be.

After you've had a baby, a smear is NOTHING in comparison, honestly!!

mamadiva · 06/03/2009 11:40

Hi all, just a quick update!

I got so nervous yesterday I nearly cancelled, but I did'nt I went and it literally took 5 minutes the woman who did it was lovely she said I was a bit tense but most women are like that the first time.

I did feel slightly uncomfortable with the speculum thing but not painful AT ALL.

If I can do it anyone can!!!

If you have'nt been for one because like me you were really uncomrtable PLEASE PLEASE go it takes a few minutes and and could save you years!
