My DS is 18 months and we are absolutely loving being parents - but dear god his Dad and I have never been so ill so much. It's more the norm for one of the 3 of us to be ill than not! Last year the wee man was ill (just the usual childhood coughs, colds and ear infections) just as much as us, this year it's us - well, mostly me - and DS seems to be fine! The problem is, we both work full time, and I started a new job when I went back to work, and my sickness record with them is awful and getting worse. I'm lucky if I get a couple of months without some time off sick. I'm currently in the middle of a week off because of horrible flu and throat infection. I'm still on probation and am getting a bit worried this won't go in my favour.

Is this amount of ill health just something that comes with the territory, or could it be that we are just both run ragged with working full time so our immune systems are depressed? I can't go on like this!

HELP!!!

IMO it's normal, but being run down won't be helping. good healthy diet, rest will help a bit.. but you will probably get everything going, and this is where we all moan about soldiering on!

try and grab a duvet day where you can

Yeah I was afraid I was going to hear that! I'm just really worried about taking so much time off work and how it looks - I wouldn't mind so much if it was with a company who knew me from before and knew this wasn't normal for me. I was half thinking of asking to work from home one day a week. If this reduced the stress and improved my immune system it might help matters - but if I'm off sick just as much AS WELL, I'll only be there even less in total. What to do, what to do...I don't even know if it's a good idea to bring it up with them first or wait for them to.

You could have a chat with HR and tell them your quite concerned and if they have any ideas..rather than waiting to be hauled up by them.

with in your job market is there anyway of doing this via a home office.. I work from home.. it really helps

Ha Ha - HR??? They are a very small IT firm of 13 staff including the 2 directors. They admit themselves they are a bit clueless when it comes to dealing with anyone who's not like their other existing employees (ie. male and a web or software developer) although their intentions are good. So I think they would back me working from home one day a week, at least. I just don't want to make any waves whilst I'm still on probation.
