Help - how can I get rid of a fungal imbalance naturally ?

Hi. I have been having problems with my skin since ds 9 months was born last May.

I get what I believe are called 'pustules' around my mouth and chin - small spots that appear and then burst quite quickly and have clear liquid inside. I have had various creams from the Dr - who seem clueless about what they are, none of the creams have got rid of them completely. Canestan is effective but when I stop using it, they come back - suggesting to me that this is a fungal problem.

I have also got sebhorroeic dermatitis in the folds next to my nose which I have read is also caused by a fungal imbalance.

I also get terrible PMT since ds, which I have read is also linked to a fungal infection.

I did see a herbalist a few times but she hasn't helped me and I can't afford to see her anymore anyway. My Mum has offered to pay for me to see a homeopath but she pays for an awful lot of stuff for myself and the kids so I don't want to go down this route if it can be avoided.

I drink mainly water, I don't eat a lot of sweet things, eating pretty healthily and I exercise regularly.

I was taking zinc and probiotic supplements but but they didn't help.

I do eat probably a third of a melon every day with red grapes as I have a sluggish bowel and am wondering if the melon has a lot of sugar in it (hence my other post about the amount of sugar in )... this could be making the fungal infection worse ??

I need to get rid of these spots to draw attention away from my deflated balloon of a stomach .

Look up candida - you might find going on the diet for that helps.

I thought I was suffering and cut out all sugar (added and natural like fruits), white carbs (eg white bread, pasta, rice - only eat wholegrain), all dairy products, anything with yeast...

It was tough but I stuck to it for about 6 months and then started easing off a bit.

It did make a massive difference, and I still avoid sugar, white carbs, dairy, wheat and bread as much as I can. Cutting out fruit was the hardest and I went back to it pretty quick, but dont eat grapes often as they are one of the worst.

Sluggish bowl and bloated stomach could also be linked to candida overgrowth so I'd say definitely look into it.

Oh, and I found this book by Gillian McKeith helped too as her ideas are pretty much the same as the candida diet.

oh and I had a similar sounding infection in my foot (incredibly itchy too tho) almost the whole time I was pregnant and it didn't get sorted until I saw a skin specialist - I'll see if I can find the name of the cream for you - the dr was prescribing the wrong thing and making it worse, this cleared it up in a few days...

Thanks chickenmama, I will look into this. 6 months on a very restricted diet sounds pretty hardcore. I might ask Mum to help me out with the homeopath afterall....

Caprylic acid is very good for anything fungal.

I'd second acidophilus tablets, they worked for me. I had a series of fungal skin infections which haven't recurred since I started taking them. You need high dose ones, something like this.

Thanks. I had been taking a pro biotic but obviously not a strong enough one and not regularly enough.

It does sound like candida. As well as the probiotics, and reducing sugar intake, add lots of natural antifungal foods to your diet - onions, garlic, oregano, thyme. Turmeric and cinnamon are also anti-fungal. Drink plenty of water as when you start killing it you can get headaches, etc. so you need to flush out the toxins.
