DD's have just complained of itchy bottoms with dd3 saying she had a wiggly white thing in her bum [grim].

Just googled what medicine we can take because I really do not want to sit in a dr's waiting room with an overexcited toddler for two hours .

Most treatments are saying not safe for pg (I am 27 weeks) does anyone know what I can take please .

kids can have ovex, or pripsen. ovex is banana shitey stuff, pripsen is raspberryish solution - you make it up in water/milk.

you need to damp dust everywhere, vacuum all the time, pants in bed for everyone, clean toys, wash all towels and bedding and keep a seperate towel for each person.

Yes, a pain!

Ok thankyou so I will treat dp and dc and wage war on the house .

I will cut everyones nails very short ,constantly wash my hands and not put hands in my mouth and we all wear knickers in bed and maybe just maybe they will die out in six weeks ?

Not a doctor, but read a few medical papers on this and also discussed it with a Boots pharmacist.

It's not that threadworm medicine isn't safe in pg, it's that it's not tested for pg women because of the associated cost to pharmaceutical companies. Threadworm medicine mainly stays in the gut, so according to the pharmacist I spoke to once about this, it isn't the worst thing you can take. Many pg women sneakily take Ovex therefore.

Personally I think you should treat it, because it can cause bowel irritation in severe infestations, and I think this possibly runs the risk of triggering premature labour if you are prone to that, in the same way that a UTI might.

But always discuss things like this with your GP.

dd had suspected threadworm when I was about 32 weeks pg, and the OB prescribed Pripsen piperazine (as opposed to mebendazole) for me to take, as she decided the mental torture of thinking I might have it during labour was far worse than any potential risks to me or the baby

Good luck

I had pripsen when pg and dd1 had worms.... bloody disgusting stuff.

Leanne5 · 25/02/2009 09:15

I too was prescribed pripsen when pg and my childminded child had them and passed onto my own children. I agree with schilke awful stuff-had to hold my nose when I drank it.
You can order this online through some chemist sites if you don't want to go to doctors.
