Has my metabolism changed since having a baby or is there likely to be some other condition at play?

I lost about a stone after my baby was born, but since he was about 8 weeks old I've put on weight and can't shift it.

I walk for an hour every day plus go to the gym, and I eat as healthily as I did before I got pregnant but I now way nearly 2 stone more than I did then (and I only put on 2 stone when pregnant).

Has my metabolism changed, or is there likely to be an underlying condition? I did wonder if it could be an underactive thyroid. Has anyone else experienced this?

Got a Dr appt tomorrow but don't want to look stupid!

Yes it is possible.

Pregnancy (and the associated hormone changes) can induce conditions such as Hypothyroidism.

Do you feel cold, tired (well apart from having a young baby!) is your skin dryer etc look up some symptoms and see if any are familiar.

My GP fobbed me off for ages with the 'you have a young baby of course you are tired' nonsense, I took my first thyroxine on DD's 3rd birthday having paid to see a private endocrinologist (as GP forgot to refer me having agreed to do so, then when I chased appt 4 months later was told there would be a six month wait for an appt!) best £160 I have ever spent.

Wow, thanks marmaduke.

I'm always tired and cold so not sure about those.

I do have really flaky skin and awful dandruff now though.

Did you see a difference in your weight after treatment?

It is easier to lose weight now, but still hard work (but I am older)

I have a pituatory problem, so secondary hypothroidism so not so easy to treat.

It is a fine line between having enough to lose weight easily and having heart palpitations.

Also it can make you be more forgetful and clumsy, so remembering to take the darn things is a challenge!

Thanks marmaduke.

I don't know what to wish for really.

Just so demoralised at putting on weight despite being good

Look on the bright side, you can get a prescription exemption if you are hypothyroid but tbh, apart fro thyroxine I never need one!

Good luck.
