Can you stop a panic attack but it becomes full on or becomes an asthma attack?

Just had some really bad news and now I have chest tightness and my head is a bit like a spinning top.

Have you got a paper bag?

What happened?

Mercy · 23/02/2009 17:27

Get your head under the duvet for a couple of mins if no paper bag.

I have occasional panic attacks and very mild asthma - one has never followed the other.

Are you ok?

Feel a bit wretched as I can't do anything to help and can't talk to anyone about it. Have texted a friend but can't alk to her right now.

Need to learn how to breathe properly.

Mercy - is your asthma worse when you are stressed?

breathe in to a count of 4 through your nose and blow out through your mouth for a count of 7/8 drop you shoulders
do this 4 /5times

that helps but also scares me as i can feel myself letting go and that makes me worry what would come next

One hand on your tummy, one on your ribs, breathe in slowly through your nose you should feel both hands rise then you know you've breathed in fully. Hold the breath for a short moment til your body tells you to breathe out then let it go gently through your mouth (long and slow)

Have you tried aromatherapy to help with panic attacks - I've had them for years, sometimes very badly and find it really helpful.

I'd recommend 'Aromatherapy for Dummies', which suggests recipes for different blends for different reasons, so you can try some until you find one that suits you.

The oils aren't cheap to buy in the first place (although Holland & Barratt are probably the best value), but they will last virtually forever.

I like a blend of Camomile, Lavender, Neroli (or Sweet Orange - it's cheaper )and Ylang Ylang.

Best of luck!
