DD (2.4) has been off colour all week and then vomited for last two days. She has stopped vomiting and hasn't been sick since about 3pm yesterday, but today is just totally lethargic. She gets up, has a drink and then just lies there and wants to go back to sleep.

I don't think she is dehydrated as she has been drinking lots since she was last sick, just a bit concerned because she is SO lethargic.

Is this normal after a stomach bug? She has had them before but never seemed this drowsy...

She has had 800 ml of fluids this morning and hasn't brought it up, and had about 600ml last night after last vomiting episode..which seems adequate to me....?

If your daughter is usually active and you can see a real change, I would go to the GP , just to put your mind at rest.

It might be that the bug really dreained her and she just needs to take it easy for a few days but as she is still very young and probably cannot explain much on how she feels I would get her checked anyway..

Thanks, yes she is entirely different..if she is still as lethargic when she next wakes I will definitely call the GP..

Let us know how it goes. I have a DD of the same age and it is hard to see them out of sort like that. I hope she will feel better very soon!

Thanks, I will, hoping she will wake up and cause havoc like she usually does

DD (2.5) was like this when she had the vomiting bug the other week. She is a child who has barely napped during the day since before 12 months old, but she was very lethargic, slept on my lap, went to bed early and slept later in the morning for a few days after the vomiting had passed. It took a good week to get over it and start eating and behaving 'normally' (i.e on the ruddy go from the moment she gets up!). However, you know your DD - if you are still worried then give the out of hours GP a call.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 21/02/2009 18:59

Just back from out of hours, called them because she stayed lethargic all day, wouldn't keep anything down and was just lying whimpering..so were were asked to come in.

Of course, once she went out in car she totally perked up and started singing. Was a bit embarrassing but the Dr said it was right to get her seen and that it's a good test as the really sick ones don't perk up and the ones who just feel poorly do!!!

So we are just to keep up the fluids, it's just a nasty stomach bug, as we thought!

Just waiting for us to catch it now!!!

Oh thats good, glad dd okay. You should always trust your instincts where your children are concerned.

Gorionine · 22/02/2009 09:54

I am glad that it is nothing serious.I hope she will be singing all day for you soon! Or maybe not...
