Lacking in vaseline.

HumphreyCobbler · 20/02/2009 19:40

sounds like thrush - is it red and cracked in the corners? If so, try Daktarin.

Goober · 20/02/2009 19:42

I have this.
Thought the same.
Went to the Dr with it, apparently is fungal infection and have Caneston Hydrocortisone cream for it.
After 2 days it cleared up.

wine?

CrackerNut · 20/02/2009 19:44

LOL @ Vasaline, although vasaline is one of the worst things you can out on your lips/skin anyway.

It's not red no, just flakey. I have had it for years now although only in the winter so it may not be a deficiany, and just the crap weather.

I have tried several different creams and them seem to help for a bit and then start to sting and stop working.

Its vitamin B2 (riboflavin). The condition is called angular stomatitis, and can be caused by a number of other things as well.

CrackerNut · 20/02/2009 19:45

Will make a note of that Lula, thanks.

I used to have this - most of my life come to think of it. My sis is a herbalist..she says it's a lack of zinc. I have lip balms all over the place - in every coat pocket, every room of the house. It doesn't bother me as much as it used to. Sorry, not sure why, maybe I've been eating more zinc?

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 21/02/2009 22:59

Cracker - interesting you say about Vaseline being bad for skin etc, all the magazines always promote it as an economical lip balm, eyebrow smoother, cheek gloss - you name it, Vaseline can do it!

SlartyBartFast · 21/02/2009 23:00

i heard that too about vaseline, not good for newborn babie's lips as it dries them. so presumabley not good for adults either.

cornsilk · 21/02/2009 23:01

Would lack of zinc cause chapped lips as well?

PillicockSatOnPillicockHill · 21/02/2009 23:02

I think it's thrush. I get it occasionally and caneston clears it up.
