I am sure that as dd2 was kept quite low by an epidural for a long time she has pressed on those muscles and now as a result it's really not the same. it has eased with time but not gone back.

any similar experiences? should I give it more time or mention it to gp?

TIA

what's up with it? do you mean you get constipated? sorry to ask for more details but you are being TOO discreet

OnStrike · 18/02/2009 08:34

you're right franny I didn't! bit embarassing.

well yes I was constipated in the beginning and had piles which was a PITA (obviously!). the piles have long gone and not exactly constipated.
it seems as if the muscles inside do not work properly and have less control and sensitivity.

during labour the midwife did not check me before giving me an epidural and although dd was alreay ready to come out, and me ready to push, she was kept in for a few hours with me in a sitting position ifswim.

you are still not being clear enough!

I have a front and back prolapse, the result of this is that when I have a bowel movement I have to push the back wall of my vagina (as it bulges forwards) so that I can pass a bowel movement, otherwse it just sits there even if I strain.
If you are experiencing something similar get to the GP.

I had a problem after DS1, basically as soon as I knew I needed to go I had to RUN to the loo as soon as I got the feeling whereas before labour I could hold it for a few mins/ longer if need be. It wasn't a case of loose bowels or constipation it was just whatever was there needed to come out immediately!

I went to the Dr who refered me to the hospital, I had to fill out a poo diary, food diary and have a little test which involves clenching my bum while a little sensor (tiny, tiny thin thing) was in my anus. This test is to tell if you have muscle problems down there. I was prescribed some excercises and told not to eat TOO much fibre as it was make the problem worse.

Things are fine now, although I was ery worried at the time. I had an epidural and yucky ventouse delivery with DS1.

i would definitely mention to gp
although embarrassing they will not give a monkeys, and may be able to reassure you or get some physio which could help
imo these things are often best sorted sooner rather than leaving for ages, after which time it may be harder to return to normal
good luck
