Last Monday I got very sick with a chest infection & fever. Tuesday I went to see the nurse who DX chest infection & fever & gave me antibiotics. Now its Friday and I am worse my fever is better but only marginally but my breathing is impossible. I really can not breathe its horrible. It feels like my lungs have been filled with concrete. I went back to see the Dr today - saw the horrible one I hate but the good one wasnt there. She said there was a crackle in both lungs & gave me a prescription for some stronger antibiotics. But really I dont know how I am going to cope. I cant fill my lungs up. I am feeling almost claustrophobic at the moment. I am coughing loads too but right now just trying to sit upright very still and take my mind off of it on the laptop but I really cant think of anything. It is killing me. I havent eaten all week really either.

I had pneumonia about 10 years ago and I am afraid of that happening again. But on the other hand I think no matter what I must not go into hospital because DS 2.6 is ASD and really needs me and would be gutted and confused and distressed if I wasnt around. I dont know what to do. I really just cant breathe.

I'm reading too. Hope dw is ok and ds, thinking of you all. I think you're doing really well.

I have just heard from DW!
She phoned from A&E and said she hadn't yet been seen by anyone, not even a nurse and she was telling them she was checking herself out and coming home!
It was so good to hear from her.
I'm shocked no-one had even assessed her by this point.
She is going to get a taxi home.
I'll let her carry on posting and give everyone an update.

thanks to all for your thoughts for her.

Well done to you and your DS for coping so well. How shocking that your DW was not seen, after hours of waiting.

I hope that the antibiotics have at last kicked in and that you are feeling better, HIDTL.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think that this thread is a pretty good valentines present. Your two guys love you loads, HIDTL.

JodieO · 14/02/2009 01:41

I hope she stayed to be seen, they are often really busy, understandably and as she's there she may as well wait to be seen rather than maybe feeling worse tomorrow and ending up back there.

hereidrawtheline · 14/02/2009 01:47

i've just had a call from a student nurse at the hospital
DW has decided to stay and be seen.
i thought i could hear her in the background but the nurse guy said that the phones couldn't go into the bays so i couldn't talk to her, but that she wanted me to know she had decided to stay and be seen by the doctor.

i asked how i would receive an update and he said he could request that i get a phone call once the doctor had seen her.

i was really looking forward to seeing her again but i've just been sitting there next to DS in bed thinking that it would mean we still didn't know if it was anything worse than the chest infection gone bad.

i'm going to go wait in bed for the phone call.

I'm glad she stayed and I hope you hear something soon. I hope you can have a restful night.

hereidrawtheline · 14/02/2009 03:17

i've just chased as i hadn't heard anything and i got through to the doctor who had seen her
he said that her chest infection had triggered asthma and that he was advising a steroid shot to treat this and then he would send her home

she was undergoing a nebuliser while i spoke to him so i couldn't talk to her, but she will call when she knows when she's coming home

i wish i could have spoken to her but i'm so pleased that pneumonia was ruled out

DS has been awake a while and i'm hoping he'll go back to sleep

Hope that means that she's better. DS will be pleased to see her back. Well done for holding the fort. I'm sure it meant a lot to DW. Will you all manage a lie in in the nmorning? Then maybe a nice cuppa and breakfast in bed for your DW. Hope you have a good day together.

Hi - its the original HIDTL here. Just got home from A&E. Thanks very much for keeping DH company and giving him support. I am obviously off to bed but in winding down and talking to DH wanted to quickly post.

I have a very bad chest infection that has started the onset of pnuemonia but as it has been caught so early we are hoping a strong course of steroids will stop it from getting any worse. Also it kicked off like a permanent asthma attack. My lungs are really weak, it showed up in xrays and blood work. So I am to try not to get out of breath while I am healing as it will be hard to catch it again. So I was given a mega dose of steroids at hospital and more to take home with me and nebuliser and um... they sort of wanted to keep me in a couple of days for observation but the doctor agreed I could go as long as I stayed still (ish) to keep my breath and come back if it got any worse as that would mean the steroids hadnt done it all.

So thats that! I am going to eat a piece of chocolate now and then crawl into bed next to DS. Knowing him he wont make any room for me so even tonight I shall be clinging to the edge! grr

Thanks again. I will post tomorrow & let you know how I am feeling.

Am very glad that you hve the appropriate meds now. Follow the docs recommendations to the letter! Don't do anything (and if you are like me, weepy when poorly, then don't put the news on for a few days til you can handle sad stuff!)

Glad you are home, and hope you slept ok - sounds identical to what happened to my dh in September: he's fine now, but it took a while - make sure you follow doctor's orders, h'hear?

hereidrawtheline · 14/02/2009 10:57

hi! I am indeed going to follow orders! I had such a fright. I am trying not to worry this morning, DS is coughing. I am just praying he hasnt got what I have I hate to think of this chest infection & pneumonia in his little lungs. Rest assured I will be watching him like a hawk and any change for the worse he will be taken straight to the out of hours doctor!

Hope you all have a lovely Valentine's Day in the true spirit - love. I crawled into bed early this morning next to DS and was so happy I was there!
