Swollen, puffy eyelid -do I need to do anything?

I've woken up this morning with a swollen, puffy eyelid -from the inner corner of the eye to about half way along. Its puffy from where the eyelashes are to the crease in the socket IYSWIM.

The swollen area is a bit red too.

Anyone hazard a guess as to what it is? I'm wondering if it will just go down over the day or do I need to get something from the chemist?

Things like this always happen to me on a Friday leaving me convinced that if I don't do anything today I'll wake up on Sat/Sun with a big puffy eye and no doctors open.

Thanks

Sounds like a a stye (sp?) .Brolene cream/drops wouldn't hurt(over the counter meds) but stye usually go on their own accord (unless hideously infected).

Do styes not seem more "spot"like, in that they have a definite central point? Or is that just what I imagine them to be like?

When I've had them, the 'spot' seems to come out over a few days,it could be conjunctivitis I guess, but Brolene is suitable for minor eye infections,so maybe worth buying some and slapping it on just in case.

I think I'll do that -certainly won't do any harm will it?

Oh no! Just realised if it does come out in a horrid great stye/spot it will be just in time for me and DP's couple of nights away in a hotel next week. Arse.

Not sure where you are, but round here, acute conjunctivitus is having a major epidemic - both DH and I have had it - and other parents at the school. DH looked like he'd been punched in both eyes. You'll soon find out it it is, as they will start to get sticky. You will need some Chloremphenicol drops or ointment.

Arse and double arse!

It seemed to get a bit better through the day yesterday and, as I was busy, I didn't bother going to the chemist for anything. Bad move.

This morning I look like a right freak with huge puffy eyelid right up to the brow.

Been to the chemist who suggested Piriton (as it could be an allergy to something) and some ointment (Optrex for Infected Eyes) in case its a stye/infection although she agreed with me that it didn't look like a stye.

Anyone else had anything like this?
