or do you have to have a whole new crown.

there is a dark part showing between the gum and the 'tooth'. It's getting more noticable over the past 2 yrs or so.

I am with an nhs dentist, but do wonder about thier service. ok they are know to be absolutely rubbish, so need to get info!

I had mine replaced for this reason last year. My dentist is an NHS one and he's done a marvellous job (including sending me to the lab where they make up the crown in order to get a good colour match) - the new crown is superb! As I had an exemption certificate (maternity one) I got the treatment for free and suspect this is why he was so keen to do it - they know they're going to get their money!

He said that crowns often need replacing after around 12 years.

I would imagine your dentist would be happy to do it seeing as your treatment is currently free!

just think influx of workers from eastern places. i am surprised that they don't use pliers, molten metal and rum tbh.

it's not nice to complain about it, but it's also scared the shite out of alot of people, and has had many complaints to the council.

becklespeckle, that sounds great.

i might inquire if we have any new dentists at the practise this yr. pretty sharp turnaround there.

Have to say that from the description of your dentist piratecat, I would be tempted to go private...

becklespeckle I am glad to hear there are other dentists out there doing their best -who happen to work for the NHS.

The dental work from the dentists in our practice is considerably better than the "private" guy down the road . We get a steady stream of his dissatisfied patients.

I have a crown on front tooth and receding gum I'm with NHS dentist but was told I will have to have a new crown at the cost of£500 because its classed as cosmetic can it be filled at all between the gum and crown at a cheaper price
