These wee parasites have been plaguing dd (possibly for months and have only been discovered now) and though we've all taken treatment, I'm now totally paraniod about re-infection. I don't think it's possible to do any more cleaning/washing than we've done this week and the prospect of keeping this regime going for the next six weeks is scaring me to death - I'm constantly chasing my tail as it is. We're all wearing knickers 24/7 and I'll be changing/washing everything regularly, but has anyone got any positive stories to tell - like that they just disappeared after treatment. If not, then any further advice/tips to stop me going frantic would be appreciated immensely. I already feel like the world's crappest mum for not spotting this sooner. Had no idea about the night-time soreness and the fact that they could make their way into her vagina (where the persistant night-time pain was). I just thought these were something I'd see in her poo!! (v sorry for too much info) HELP!!!
I'll bump this tomorrow as I guess it's rather late now................

I know this is an old thread but hope someone can help me.
Ds had been complaining of an itchy bum for months and is ALWAYS eating, I have checked for threadworms and never saw any but last night there they were, he has loads and i must have got quite a few from his bum
Anyway Im going to docs this morning, doe ds have to come with me or do you reckon the gp will give me the treatment, I know we all have to take it too.

Sorry to bump but does anyone know if I have to take my ds to the docs with me or can I klet him go to school?

LadyMuck · 30/10/2006 08:06

You don't need to go to the doctor - just visit the pharmacist. And ds can go to school.

Don't be scared 15 they are really common. If you go to a pharmacy and explain they will give you the treatment. It's called Ovex. IIRC they can give it to you free (if you are in the U.K.) You will need to take two doses a week or two apart; be really careful about washing your hands and wear tight fitting pants and pj bottoms in bed. You should probably carefully change your bedsheets too. Washing your bottom in the morning helps wash away any eggs laid at night.

It's horrible but they will be gone soon with treatment.

Btw if you have little brothers and sisters you should probably tell your parents as they have probably passed the infection to you and will need treating as well.

I discovered that my 4 year old had threadworms on Friday night, treated the whole family on Saturday morning, changed and hoovered all the beds and sat back smugly thinking that I had the critters sorted ...I have been checking his bottom a couple of times a day over the weekend and today I noticed what looked like a number of dead worms plus a couple of wrigglers. Do I need to re-treat everyone so soon after the initial dose? Does it really take days for these things to die off??
