Hi - dd2 has chickenpox so off nursery all week. Just wanted votes on how much you kept your own dc out of general circulation, since we're both already going a bit stir crazy at home! TIA

we tried to keep it to the park, walks etc where we knew not many people would be
but in this weather maybe not very helpful!

PlumBumMum · 09/02/2009 11:13

Sorry stayed in or just went to in laws who had all had chickenpox

Seeline · 09/02/2009 11:19

Yep - same here. You never know where you're going to come across someone who might be really badly affected if they caught it - pregnant, on chemo or something. It's worth ringing round friends though - some Mums are desparate for their LOs to catch it when they are younger!

Poppycake · 09/02/2009 11:33

yes, I'm worried that i'll meet lots of pregnant or ill people. Presumably in her buggy with the rain hood on there'd be limited chance of spreading anything?

It is very contageious, on one of the sites I checked as ds and dd had before xmas and my other dd has reduced immunity, it says you can get it from someone in the other aisle in supermarket

tiggerlovestobounce · 09/02/2009 11:47

When my DDs have had it they stayed in the house until they werent infectious any more. I was worried that otherwise they might have infected someone who was pregnant or immunocompromised.

EldonAve · 09/02/2009 11:53

We only went out for essential trips - corner shop, doctors

I doubt you will spread it if she is under the raincover and you are out in the fresh air

Poppycake · 09/02/2009 16:41

We went out for a long walk - beautiful weather here, so we both felt a lot better for it. I decided in favour of EldonAve's view that out in the open air and her in her "bubble" there was little chance of the germs getting away.

Thanks all for your advice

We found that other mums were keen to come around to play so that their DC got chickenpox over and done with whilst young...
