Really Painful trapped wind after laparoscopy

Morning everyone

Hoping someone can give me some advice or remedies. I had a laparoscopy on thursday and ever since have extremley painful trapped wind starting from round where they went in up in to my chest and shoulders, now I know this is a common side effect after the procedure, but when I lay down it is fine but when I get up I can hardly breathe from the pain hence I am staying in bed which is probably not good for recovery either. When I eat it just gets worse so am not eating much and not really sure what to do for the best, so any advice, remedies or tips would be geat.

Many Thanks.
x

Wind-eze gel filled capsules worked reasonably well for me. Take them regularly, every 4 hours.

I used peppermint cordial after I had my csections. It tasted disgusting but really worked.

Lynsy · 07/02/2009 10:59

really you can buy peppermint cordial , I happy to try anything. Do you need to buy it from a health shop or do supermarkets stock it.

Thank you.

I got mine in sainsbury's, but I think the Co-op do it too. It was the midwives that recommended it. Or try peppermint tea, that is good too.

No solutions, just wanted to offer my sympathies, it is an agonising pain, worse than the wound by far I found.

tiredandgrumpy · 07/02/2009 11:03

Why not just peppermint tea. Had same problem after my cs and peppermint tea really helped.

Lynsy · 07/02/2009 11:06

Thanks msl will get dp to get some of that aswell.

Thanks Bamboostalks, like you say the wounds are not causing me any suffering at the moment, and I had a laparoscopy in Septemeber and never suffered from the trapped wind so was hoing not too this time around - how wrong was I .X

Came on to recommend peppermint tea as well, worked a treat after my cs

BellaNoir · 07/02/2009 17:20

another vote for peppermint tea here

ThingOne · 07/02/2009 17:58

Another vote for gallons of peppermint tea. And keep moving. I find that helps. And keep reminding yourself it will pass and it doesn't mean there's anything wrong. While it doesn't stop it hurting it makes me less anxious.

Hope it pops soon.

Peppermint tea works well. After my first CS I was in great pain with wind until I was given peppermint tea and told to stand in the shower with warm water running down my back and massage my sides. Worked really well!

Lynsy · 08/02/2009 10:53

Thanks for all the suggestions, not really keen on peppermint tea and did have a small cup yesterday but will try again today. I am not really eating much as this only seems to make it worse.

Thingone, glad you said about moving about as I wasn't really sure if I should stay how I feel comfortable which seems to be sitting on lying, or get up and about, will try and do abit more today than lounging around

Thank you all.

I had a laproscopy followed by other procedures and I swear by "Windsettlers" and "Ole Jamaica Ginger Beer". I suffer from trapped wind at the best of times and these are the two methods I use. I have used peppermint tea too, but it was when I was still breastfeeding and it had adverse effects on the little one. I know how you feel. It is DREADFUL!!!!

dragonsdreams · 08/02/2009 14:00

Slippery Elm tablets from Potters which have various other ingredients including peppermint are fantastic.

They taste disgusting so don't chew them, just swallow with a drink.

They are the only things which helped my IBS.

Melscorp · 08/02/2009 14:04

Sorry, it is "Old Jamaica Ginger Beer".

It does work!!!
