Ok, am freaking out - any reason for boobs to leak other than preg?

Have been sitting at my desk all morning with really achy boobs, my right one in particular. Went to the loo to take my bra off for a while, and my right boob leaks a colostrom-like substance when squeezed. It looks awfully like when I breastfed DD, but a pregnancy test a few days ago said negative. Is there any reason for boobs to leak apart from pregnancy? I don't want to get my hopes up as have been trying to conceive, but am freaked. Any experiences/insights? I'm trying to stay away from google as it always makes things worse!

Are you on any medication?

MarmadukeScarlet · 04/02/2009 13:42

If I squeeze I can still get colostrum like liquid. Haven't bf for 3 yrs and no way am I preg.

Jjou · 04/02/2009 13:50

Nope, no medication.
Marmaduke - that's the most likely explanation, I stopped bf DD about 11 months ago. This is the 1st time it's happened though.

I had the same experience as you - a year after I stopped bf, boobs started leaking milk again. Then they gradually dried up on their own. Bit odd tho isn't it?

I stopped breastfeeding DD 4 years ago and I still leak tiny amounts of colostrum even now. I can squeeze a little out on demand, sorry if tmi.

I stopped breastfeeding nearly 13 years ago and breasts still leak occasionally - especially just before a period.

Did you see KerryMumbles thread about this Jjou? Kerry's thread

sometimes you can get this is you have high levels of prolactin in your blood - it's a hormone linked to breadtfeeding I think. worth a trip to the GP if it continues.

Jjou · 04/02/2009 14:18

Aah, well it seems it's more normal than i thought then! Bit disappointed, was hopeful it could be sign of pregnancy, but it's best to know straight away, rather than let hopes build eh? Have just glanced through Kerry's thread 12stone, will read it properly in a min, thanks everyone
