I am 3 years post birth!
We have been waiting for me to be sure we weren't going to have any more children, she assured me they wouldn't be interested unless I could be certain.. and Now I am

The other thing I will check with you all then is that as I am in the overweight bracket she also feels that no one would be interested, I have about 2 stone to loose to be at my ideal weight and 1 stone to loose to not be in the overweight catagory for my height. Is this really a big problem???? Could this be why she was telling me to go swimming??

aSilverLining · 24/02/2010 10:22

Being overweight won't affect your prolapse though! They may advise you to lose a little before surgery just so you are generally healthier (they told me to, BMI of 27, but I didn't) .

The bottom line of it is that excercise can't correct your prolapse and rectocele.

I waited a while too. I would just go for a referral with gynae, mine was really helpful, took a lot of time to talk it all through with me and discuss options, pros and cons, etc.

I didn't develop a crush on him though, as nice as he was. Have you seen the episode of friends where rachel (working as a waitress) meets a gynaecologist and he says 'do you ever have those days where you just think - if I have to look at one more cup of coffee....'

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 24/02/2010 11:08

thanks ASL...

my BMI (just calculated) is 28 so if that was part of the requirements for help I could get some off that (I think)

How do I get a referal for a gynae

aSilverLining · 24/02/2010 16:32

Just ask GP to refer you. You could call up and ask if you need to make an appointment to ask for a referral, they may say you don't have to traipse in just to request a referral, but then again... So basically you are just saying 'I have seen GP already about this issue and would like them to refer me to see a gynaecologist'. Which they will then do.

I had my op on 19th Jan for a cystocele and rectocele and am back to feeling fine now but still being mindful to take it easy.

They do like you to be as healthy as possible pre-operation obviosuly, but I would talk this all through with gynae as your GP sounds a bit on this issue.

JanJanJanJan · 27/02/2010 20:24

Hi all,
Has anyone had any problems bleeding from their vagina since their op? I had my rectocele repair in Sept. All was pretty fine. Started what I thought was a period around Xmas but have been bleeding almost every day since. I have now wondered if I have damaged something and am continuing to do so when I have a bowel movement. I'm too embarrassed to go to GP re this as daft as it may sound considering what.I have been through already. I think I dont want to look foolish. I am 42. Thanks

mumbomama · 03/03/2010 16:30

Hi

It is 4 weeks after my rectocele repair.

I just wondered if anyone else has bulging when they sit on the loo.

When I am on the toilet my vaginal lips really ache and I can feel both sides bulging and swollen.

I thought a prolapse showed itself more as a bulge inside the entrance, not swollen lips??

This is the same swelling that I had before the op and I'm worried that it hasn't made a difference.

Please could you let me know how your prolapse looked/felt prior to surgery and if you had any bulging or swelling after.

Thank you so much

JMCW · 04/03/2010 15:11

Hi janjanjan, please go back and see your gp to get this checked may be nothing, but is better than you worrying hope all goes well

JMCW · 04/03/2010 15:13

Hi mumbomama, I didnt look after op but deffo felt like you did am pretty sure there is still a lot of swelling to go down, see how you are after another 2 weeks.

KKIER · 05/03/2010 19:57

Hi has anyone else suffered from sore hip joints after their op.
My hips ache when I get up from a sitting position or after exercise. They can also throb during the night.

jacqs62 · 06/03/2010 13:46

I bled once recently, but thought i had either scratched myself inside as i was feeling for a bulge -or it was a short period - i am using the marina coil,so don't get periods. not had any bleeding since though, so i would go to the docs to get checked.

sometimes when i go to the loo i feel as if my bowel and vigina is heavy and pushing down, but it eases off once i stand up...

savanskisan · 07/03/2010 14:15

Hi Mumbomama - if you look at earlier posts, you will see that I had the same problem. It takes a long long time for the swelling to go down - I wouldnt worry about it,it is quite common. I had my op (rectocele) in October last year, and it has taken about three months for the swelling to go down. I should have had an anterior repair done too, but the surgeon in his great wisdom, decided it didnt need doing - I am now constantly wanting to go to the loo, and having cystitis like symptoms - I went privately too and could scream with frustration to think my full op hasn`t been done.

JMCW · 09/03/2010 18:41

Hi ladies, well I am well unhappy, been passing urine like its going out of fashion, went to my GP and Wonderful!! my urethra now has decided to prolapse. I could cry, but will have to wait and see what the medics can do for me this time. I would like a new body, preferably one 30 years younger. Hope you all are going on ok.

savanskisan · 11/03/2010 13:27

JMCW - I know how you feel - I have the same as you - it is absolutely awful. I will be interested to hear how you get on at the Docs if you care to share it with us on Mumsnet! All the best.

JMCW · 12/03/2010 14:24

Hi savanskisan, thanks for the sympathy, yes 3 years ago I had a cystocele repair all was good, then last year had the rectocele repair, cant believe my luck now my urethra as decided to collapse on me. Am a wee bit fed up as been having IBS problems now for years. Not sure what will happen with this new problem, but will post any news. Once again thanks.

JanJanJanJan · 14/03/2010 17:40

Hi all,
I had my rectocele repair in Sept 09. Everything has been fine until the last few days where I have been unable to empty my bowel...my stomach has swollen and have terrible pain/pressure but am unable to press down enough to empty my bowels if you see what I mean. I feel rather disappointed and hope its just my diet that has caused this "minor" problem. Has anyone else had the same? Like someone said previously, you cant assist yourself after this surgery so just have to put up with it. I have been to the chemists today and bought laxatives to help until I see my GP. How is everyone else?

laurensgran · 17/03/2010 19:08

Hi I saw a consultant last week about my rectocele, he spent the whole time telling me what could go wrong with all the different surgical techniques.Did anyone have a choice of which to have? Also if you had a vaginal repair did they use a mesh as he said that could work itself out.I am 60. I would be grateful for any advice also to hear from any other elderly ladies who have had this done.

chirpee · 17/03/2010 20:57

I wasn t given a choice of surgery. I think it s a bit unfair of him to expect you to be able to tell which is best, surely that s his job ! My gynaecologist was great and just clearly explained what he would be doing and I had every confidence in him. He did mention that some trials had been done using a mesh but that they hadn t really proved to be any better than not using a mesh. Certainly my operation was successful without one. I hope this is helpful.

JanJanJanJan · 17/03/2010 21:07

Laurensgran, I had the mesh during my repair however the mesh i had was made from pig skin which is the better one to use so I understood. I have had no problems with the mesh.

laurensgran · 18/03/2010 16:58

JanJanJanJan, I know he said that he doesn't use the pigskin mesh which I am quite pleased about as I'm a veggie, though I suppose it could come from another animal. He mentioned the Starr technique which is doing the repair through your back passage but you can get a feeling of urgency for several months with that even though there mightn't be anything there. Who would be a woman.

Reggiee · 24/03/2010 19:59

Hi all. Are you able to give me any advice or questions that I need to ask myself / others?

I have been having physio for over 6 months (ds almost a year), and have been asked to go away and think about what I want to do next. Choices given to me were: live with the prolapse; have a pessary inserted (this was not recommended to me due to my age and lifestyle); or surgery.

My prolapse was severe (front wall of vagina, but thankfully caused no incontinence), and physio has helped a bit.

I asked questions about surgery (what it involved; risks; success rate; how long in hospital; recovery time etc) but physio couldn't really answer them.

I have six weeks before my final trip to physio when I will have to say what I want to do.

Any advice gratefully received!

chirpee · 25/03/2010 19:59

Hi Reggiee. I had surgery for a prolapse - a rectocele. I was getting a bit constipated but didn t really think anything of it. I only found out I had a prolapse when the nurse couldn t get to my cervix during a routine smear test. I was referred to a gynaecologist who said that surgery may help the constipation. The thing that made me decide to go ahead with the surgery was when he told me that it would definitely get worse as I got older and may be more difficult to repair. So I went ahead and haven t looked back ! It s a 6 week recovery period, but my constipation is totally cured. I hope this helps.

Reggiee · 27/03/2010 09:48

Thanks Chirpee. Glad things worked out well for you.

littlestmummystop · 27/03/2010 20:18

Please give me some advice.

I thought I have all the symptoms of a rectocele but today, after feeling like a lump was in my vaginal canal again, found a lump on the front wall and not the back wall eg not the bowel side.

I have had a pelvic scan and that was fine. Also a colonoscopy and results were also fine.

What could this be? I am really upset about it.

SuzysZoo · 30/03/2010 15:54

I am writing this crying because I feel so sorry for myself. I had surgery for a rectocele 4 days ago and I am in so much pain I can't stand up. My babies have had to go to nursery all week as I can't look after them and I can't even stand up without crying from the pain. I wish I had never had this surgery done as I never knew it would feel so bad. Please give me some hope - when can I expect to feel better?

JMCW · 30/03/2010 19:28

Hi SuzysZoo, only 4 days is not long at all, try to relax and have nice long baths but no bubbles, this time next week you will be feeling a lot better. You dont say if you have been given any laxatives, if so keep taking them, and lots of fluids. I know its not easy when you have young children, but chin up, hope you feel better soon.
