Because I have booked to see a lady about the fact that I may have candida and she said if I do she will perforn colonic irrigation (she called it hydrotherapy) on me.

Does it hurt?
Will it be really embarrassing?
Will I parp like a trouper for weeks afterwards?

Please experiences please - am dreading the whole experience!

I have had it.

It was the most mortifying thing pre childbirth - therapist was a man He had a 'closed system' a device on the wall, to control fill levels and stuff.

I could see all sorts of stuff floating past the window bit TMI!! and waves as the stuck gas came out!

I didn't parp for weeks afterwards. I had it done as I was generally feeling unwell, for no real reason and it was part of my approach to getting myself healthier.

A slightly bonkers friend has a candida infestaion, she nw will only eat about 10 things as she cannot tolerate and sugars and many other things. I hope you improve healthwise soon.

I had it years ago following an overnight hospital stay where they'd said I was very constipated - it later turned out I had kidney stones! Anyway I'd been in so much pain I was prepared to do anything to prevent it ever happening again and so I had colonic irrigation (before I knew it was kidney stones). It was only a tiny bit embarrassing in the same way anything medical that involves private bits and the 'therapist' made me feel very comfortable.

Having the tube inserted didn't hurt at all and it's just an odd feeling rather than a painfull one. After a while I did start to get quite hot and dizzy, but tbh I did suffer panic attacks around that time so who knows what caused that. I didn't notice any weight loss or difference in how I felt and I wouldn't bother going back, but if it can help with something like candida then I would go again.

I don't remember being particularly parpy after.

Sorry, I didn't have candida, but use to suffer dreadfully from constipation. So much so it use to reduce me to tears. In January 2006 I visited a beautician who told me she had had colonic irrigation and it had helped her so much. She gave me the number, but I thought nothing of it. No way was I going to go down that route, especially at £60 per session.

Anyway, after another session of me crying on the toilet my husband promptly told me to book the appointment and we would find the money from somewhere.

The gentlemen was extremely good, he went through a whole set of literature with us and then told me I would need to add a drink to my diet i.e. a mixture of vegetables, fruit and water (self-made). He also said it might take about 10 sessions. My husband talked me into having it. After the first week, I noticed a difference. In fact, if I am honest, after the first session I felt less bloated and uncomfortable. I followed his instructions, but after 5 sessions, he told me, I should be alright.

I thought it would be awful, but after the initial embarrassment, it was alright. It wasn't painful or anything. Just slightly uncomfortable, but no more so than other examinations of that nature. I would recommend it to anyone.

I would love to have it done

I had a friend who had it done and said it was a brilliant feeling afterwards

Unfortunately I live in Somerset and don't know of anywhere that does it - I would be too afraid of turning up to some dodgy farm-run business in a refitted milking barn

I have a colostomy following cancer surgery and soon I hope to be doing it on myself every other day. Am I the only person on the world excited about colonic irrigation ? I just can't wait .

So much better than walking round with a bag of poo on one's tummy, even if it doesn't smell or leak like they used to.

Anyway, I understand from my stoma nurse that it's a bit weird when you start but not painful. She also said it would hugely reduce my chronic flatulence. I so hope this bit is true .

Well, if anyone is near London, I would happily recommend the gentleman I went to see.
