Probably a very silly question, but here goes.

At what age should a child start using a bigger toothbrush rather than the smaller childrens toothbrushes and when should they start using 'proper' toothpaste instead of the childrens stuff?

I just go by the ages quoted on the toothbrush packs and the toothpaste... I seem to remember that 'junior' toothpastes are up to 6, but will probably keep DS (now 5) on it till he's older and has adult teeth through. Any help?

DS1 is 7 on Friday and has 4 adult teeth through. I noticed the other day his breath was a bit wiffy so will buy him his own 'big' toothbrush and 'big' toothpaste. Will choose a mild one.

Next question do I wrap them up and give them as a birthday present

They should be using an electric toothbrush, the heads of which are all pretty small.
