How do I get rid of my really bad wind?

It is really stinky and my stomach feels red raw internally and bloated all the time (I should be eating activia!), but you can feel/see it deflate when I release the wind (it will bloat again in 15-20 mins). It really is sore, and is starting to make me feel sick all the time. What can I do to get rid of it?

sounds unpleasant. Do you use onions a lot in your cooking?

YeToxicHighRoad · 02/02/2009 21:57

It does sound like an intolerance - but you might not have to cut out the offending foods forever, just long enough to let your intestines heal.

One thing that worked for me (recommended by a nutritionist) was not drinking with a meal - in fact waiting an hour afterward and not less than half an hour before.

Also drinking a pint of water first thing, half an hour before breakfast (clears the bowels out!)

pollywobble-they are ace! And the granny-pant shape will pull me in too! Never use onions, or seasoning really-I tend to eat a lot of toast really, and cereal. A lot of pasta/noodles too. God, please don't let this be a wheat intolerance, I will starve to death!

Interesting , someone told me once you should never drink during meals, only beforehand but I didn't understand why that would be so and I suppose I'm just used to having a drink with meals.

I read somewhere that caffeine can accentuate the problem but you mentioned that already.

Hope it clears up.

It does take getti g used to, but you can have a few sips to alleviate thirst. It made a huge difference to my IBS.

LackaDAISYcal · 02/02/2009 22:42

I have coeliac disease and always know if I've inadvertently had gluten as I fart like a trooper and they are the stinkiest farts in the known universe. I also do that farting as I walk thing, or if I stand up.

Have you been tested for coeliac disease? Most people aren't diagnosed until in their thirties like I was.

tbh though you need to see the GP about it, as embarking on any form of restrictive diet shouldn't be done without the support of your GP or a dietician, especially as the thing you think you are excluding might be a hidden ingredient in unlikely food sources.

Def go and see your doc. I was exactly like this when I had gallstones!

Pawslikepaddington · 02/02/2009 23:18

Ha ha, have visions of you being like Joey from friends (but not laughing if I have them too ).

this thread is having an unfortunate effect on me. Like when you read threads about nits and feel you need to scratch your head

Oooh I sympathise, my IBS is really playing me up at the moment and I'm in agony too.

Have you tried fennel tea, usually helps me a little. I used to take buscopan to alleviate the symptoms.

ChampagneDahling · 03/02/2009 12:30

I agree with the several posts that suggest you start with your gp - see if he can help - and please go soon - vg friend of mine had probs and didn't like to bother gp (again busy with DC) and by the time she collapsed they found she had v serious illness.

Sounds like IBS to me but everyone's body is different. If gp says it is IBS I heartily recommend aloe vera juice.

Of course - charcoal biscuits work on my dog....

Boodleloo · 08/09/2009 22:39

Did the diet experiment work? I have had the most awful wind since I had my baby and the GP has been really unhelpful. Has yours improved? Keen to know what helped.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/09/2009 12:47

This might sound silly, but if you have put on weight recently are your waistbands a bit too tight? That can painful tummy cramps and other gastro symptoms.
