I find my gallstones manageable with codeine and buscopan, so I'd opt for them if I had to !

ComeWhineWithMe · 02/02/2009 14:00

I had suspected kidney stones and it was awful I would rather be in albour than feel that pain again ,however my friend had gallstones and went bright yellow !But both of us sort of described it as an awful griping pain and we both had morphine.

The consultant told me to drink loads of lemonade and touch wood no kidney stones for two years don't know if it was to do with that though but thought I would mention it.

Hope you get it sorted both seem to be bloody awful.

Had both - equally painful I'm afraid. Had gall bladder removed surgically which was pretty straightforward, not had recurrence of kidney stones......

KatyMac · 02/02/2009 17:41

YOU CAN HAVE BOTH [faint][puddle on the floor]

Kidney stone pain is supposed to be the nearest that a man can get to labour. I would get the kidney stones sorted before the gallstones.

Lemontart · 03/02/2009 19:42

you poor thing
really hope you find good pain relief and quick resolution to it. If you do go down the gallstone keyhole surgery route, it is not too bad if that will offer you comfort. My sister had it last year - in and out the next day - only stayed overnight due to late afternoon surgery. Three tiny little inch long scars (above tummy button, to the side and bikini area) are already almost invisible. Solved it instantly and was in little pain after the op. A bruise on each incision site that cleared in a week and no pain after that.

I remember her saying the relief she got in an attack was to run a very hot deep bath - along with the painkillers, this was the best for her and might be worth a shot.

Hope you get it sorted out soon x

My gallstones tend to kick off in times of stress - that feeling that it's suddenly all too much - If you haven't started gall stones attacks, it might be worth thinking about telaxation, or how to combat potential sources of stress.

KatyMac · 03/02/2009 20:19

I have decided I don't have either

I couldn't cope with either

It was just bad IBS......

t are the symptoms of gall stones?

catMandu · 03/02/2009 20:30

I've had kidney stones for years and yes it can be much like going into labour, so I hope you don't have them.

On Saturday when I saw the Out of hours GP - I had pain just under my ribs, in my low right hand side of my tummy but most of all in my back

On Monday when I saw my GP it is low right & back only (& had eased dramatically)

Who knows - apparently it could be my appendix too

Hi Katymac,

So can i ask...was it stones of any type?
I get like a grumpling side/back and under right rib ache.(doesn't stop me doing anything..just annoying!)
It seems like it is there all the time...but more noticeable when stressed, due on or eaten too much...rather than anything specific.
I feel like I have had it on off since before xmas.
When i had flu over xmas i think it went away because i was hadly eating.
I think i may have IBS too as one minute i can't go...the next minute i have to go twice(TMI)
I feel fine in myself...but i must admit have been bit worried about it.
Strangely enough, my husband is due to have his gallbladder out next week as he had stone stuck in neck of gallbladder. But he has proper attacks.
I can't imagine us both having gallstones..that would be weird?

KatyMac · 04/02/2009 14:08

I am waiting for tests - unless it gets worse when I can go back to the GP's

The new pain killers are good

eastergirl · 04/02/2009 14:26

Is your pain/ache constant?
Or do you have attacks like the others describe?

KatyMac · 04/02/2009 16:31

It appeared for the first time last Monday - has been fairly constantly increasing since it was worst on Sunday and has been decreasing since
