I dont fel like I am particularly overweight but then I see my sister and most friends and more worryingly see photos- just a few years ago and I really have got bigger!

Boredom, shift work, stress are all my problems and right now I have just put the biscuit barrel away!

lostinnappies · 30/01/2009 20:54

don't know about water but 4 packets of Skips certainly don't fill you up!

Heated · 30/01/2009 20:55

or quadruple choc cookies

WhatsTheBloodyPoint · 30/01/2009 20:57

No one can give you the willpower but it sounds like maybe you're approaching the stage of doing something about it.

If you'r ein no great rush to shift the weight then small changes will send the trend downwards.

Step one is not putting on more weight. Stick with that for a while, then move on from there. Good luck

its the evenings, I just snack on crap, I cant seem to go through the evening without having chocolate or biscuits or something.
I dont drink enough which is one thing I need to change but .......?
I want to lose about a stone nad tone up

WhatsTheBloodyPoint · 30/01/2009 21:09

It's like giving up smoking, you need to change the associations. If you usually snack whilst sitting watching telly then do something else. Either go out swimming/yoga etc, though that may be a bit drastic

Sit with a glass of water in your hand and sip, or prepare yourself a healthy snack, eg chopped fruit so you can nibble on that. It's an expensive way of doing it but supermarkets sell pre-chopped fruit so you can just rip open the pack. Brown toast, nothing else? Weetabix and banana?

Or keep eating but up the exercise by 50-100%? How about virtually giving up alcohol until you've lost the weight?

WhatsTheBloodyPoint · 30/01/2009 21:11

A glass of water before each meal definitely helps.

I think smoothies, though healthy, are full of sugar (albeit natural) which sends your blood sugar up followed by the dangerous low. Save yourself the hassle, water and the fresh fruit is much better.

chocolatemummy · 30/01/2009 21:12

well I barely drink any alcohol, I would love to go swimming or yoga but dont have the time, I do like weetabix and could probably eat cereals instead of chocolate etc for most of the time and enjoy it so theres one thing I can do.
I do need to drink more water, I love cordials but thats no good is it
I am 5ft4 and about 11 stone at the moment size 14, sometime a 16 in tops but have big boobies, no diet will help that! lol

whitenoise · 30/01/2009 21:14

if you feel hungry have a glass of water. (or other drink NOT tea) sometimes the body misinterprets thirst as hunger.

Brush your teeth if you feel the urge to binge in the evenings. The taste (and fresh breath) will make you think twice.Or wear a hair bobble round your wrist and "ping" it if you get "snacky".

After Christmas, when I was a glutton I started to keep a food diary. I didn't have to alter what I ate, but I had to be honest. I was shocked by the amount I ate, which I didn't actually eat IYSWIM.

It made me think about what I was eating a lot more, and why I was eating it (because the baby had taken the Quality Street out of its wrappers did not mean I had to shove it in my gob!)

I completely agree with Whatsthebloodypoint, breaking the habits and associations can be more effective than 'going on a diet' as such.

whitenoise · 30/01/2009 21:15

Walking is very good exercise

and its surprising how much time you do have when you put more importance on toning up than relaxing

chocolatemummy · 30/01/2009 21:18

water water water....going to get a pint glass of it now!

OP posts:
whitenoise · 30/01/2009 21:20

well you could make small changes every so often

start with drinking 8 glasses of whatever a day and see how you get on with that

chocolatemummy · 30/01/2009 21:23

someone told me to put a litre bottle of water in the fridge every morning and make sure I have drunk it all by the end of the day...thats sounds like a good one
anyone fancy a bike ride?

WhatsTheBloodyPoint · 30/01/2009 21:27

Just reread your OP. You want to lose a stone? That's nothing (in the scheme of weightloss). You could shift most (if not all) of that in a month if you put the effort in. Doesn't that idea give you the inspiration? You could go on a fairly rigid regime and might well be able to stick to it because it would only be for a pretty short space of time.

After that you'd only have to keep it off

chocolatemummy · 30/01/2009 21:31

my ideal weight according to those weight/height charts is about 8-9 stone so really should lose 2-3 stone but one stone would do for now lol

Ohforfoxsake · 30/01/2009 21:39

use a smaller plate and bowl. We tend to fill up our plates, so it tricks us into thinking we're having a plateful.

Have a drink of water when you think you are hungry, then see if you still are.

Soup for lunch.

I've lost 11 pounds since Christmas, started off by keeping a food diary, then ate whatever I wanted but only at mealtimes. Then I started weight-watchers once I got a grip on my greed, but I like to get slightly obsessed about it and write things down, count up points etc.

I go the gym in the morning, I'm there for when its open at 6.30 then home in time to get the kids breakfast. I'm set for the day then. Oh, and I can be incredibly smug about it

BTW, this has got me to where you are now, I too am 5'4 and 11 stone. But I'm really happy about it! Can't wait to see a '10-something' on the scales!

chocolatemummy · 30/01/2009 21:44

well done ! thankyou for the encouragement.
I did try weight watchers last year but because I work shifts I couldnt make the meetings regularly enough and it ended up being quite expensive. I AM going to do the bottle of water thing everyday and get loads of fruit tomorrow from the market and will be on her regularly so those want to can support me and I'll support them! Becuase that would really help me

There's lots of offers on at the moment for WW. If you liked it, you could do two weeks online free at the mo, just to get you started.

But there will be lots of support on here I'm sure

Ohforfoxsake · 30/01/2009 21:49

Forgot to say thanks!

chocolatemummy · 30/01/2009 21:50

so whats your target ?

OP posts:
Ohforfoxsake · 30/01/2009 21:53

Once I see a 10.13 on the scales I think it'll give me a huuuge boost, and I'm aiming for 10.6 (the top of my WW range). I want to get down to 9.13, as I have a wedding in March I want to be a size 10 for, then I'll settle for 10.4 - 10.6.

I've thought about this quite a lot

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 21:55

I have sigend up with weightlossresource, you input what you weigh what you want to lose and they give you a calorie allowance. It is working for me.

plod · 01/02/2009 14:04

Go on to slimmingworld website, there is a full weeks recipe planner on there. Very very easy to follow, basic and filling. Buy Davina's DVD and do it when children nap, if don't want to fork out for DVD, or kids too old to nap, run up and down stairs until you physically can't do it any more. When recovered, do it again!!! These things helped me lose 3 stone!
Always use stairs rather than lifts.
Little thing like when tea is on, lean against work surface and do 4 sets of 16 press ups against it to tone arms and chest.
When watching TV, lie on floor and do 4 sets of 16 sit ups, then during ad break run up and down stairs til can't any longer.
If you have kids about, they will find all this highly amusing, mummy looks like an absolute nutter, you feel like a nutter....but you are getting results. Good luck x
