I have a lump in my mouth

I've had it for a few weeks now. It doesn't hurt, just makes me feel like my lip is sticking out further on that side!
It hasn't got any bigger either but surely it shouldn't be there!
Not sure if I should go Dr's or dentist about it or whether to just leave it.

have you got a sharp broken tooth it could be catching on?

Could be an abcess - I had one that didn't get painful for a while....I'd see a doc just to be on the safe side.

It couldn't have been caught on my tooth as its a bit lower than my teeth.
Its about the size of a pea at the moment.

I had/have a lump on my gum behind my teeth. I saw my dentist who took an X-ray and thought it was harmless but sent me to Barts anyway to see an oral surgeon just for a second opinion. He decided it was harmless, a kind of extra growth of tooth. But I'm pleased I saw him otherwise I would have carried on worrying. I have an SOS appointment there now, meaning I can just ring up if it concerns me again and don't need to be rereferred.
Get it checked out at the dentists for your own peace of mind.

its not an ulcer, I've had them in the past and this doesn't seem like one.
I got it after I had been ill with a urine infection (was on antibiotics), I also had a cough and cold for about 3 weeks when I noticed it.

If you tap the tooth it's next to with something metal, does that hurt? It could be above a deep abcess. I have had these but can't remember if they hurt or not (have had loads of abcesses though...)

Go to the dentist before the doctor I think.

Its on my lip rather than on my gum and it looks purple (like a vein or something)
Still doesn't hurt and it feels a bit flatter today, like it has changed shaped but not got smaller.

kid, imo a dentist would have much more knowledge of this than a gp. there's also a v good oral medicine specialist at the royal london called Dr Joanna Zakrzewska (dr zak), if you're worried try and get referred to her.

i think a lot of people are, kid, and i'm sure they'd understand and have some strategies to help you cope. i saw someone at work yesterday who said he'd had the most pain-free filling ever yesterday
do get it checked out..you don't smoke do you?

no I don't smoke.
I am due a check up at the dentist anyway. We moved last July and haven't even informed them of our new address. I just hate that feeling sitting in the waiting room with my heart pounding.

try to get them to give you a first appointment so there's no hanging around. could you take a walkman with calming music on it?

i'm sure it'll be fine, but things in your mouth like that just annoy you so much, it's worth getting it looked at. dr zak told me that gp's only get about a couple of lectures on oral health whereas dentists do loads...best luck, xxx
