Hi all,
my dh has a nasty case of this and nothing seems to be shifting it. Any of you had this and zapped it successfully with a wonder-treatment? He's tried the usual otc creams.
Any tips gratefully accepted as it's driving him nuts

Mycil spray always work well for me.

You can spray shoes with it,I think that helps kill the fungus-remember dry feet/toes well and don't share towels.

mawbroon · 30/01/2009 10:45

Are you anywhere near a beach?

I had it for years and years, tried every cream/powder going. Nothing shifted it until the doc suggested wearing open sandals all summer and paddling every day the beach.

I did this, it cleared up and I had no bother with it for 10 years!

Bit cold for the beach just now though..

Kayteee · 30/01/2009 19:06

Thanks posh and mawbroon,
have tried the Mycil to no avail but he's going to try salt water...and pretend to be at the beach!! Thanks again

I think there's a bit more to it than just the salt water! The sand rubs off the dead skin too when you paddle.

So you'll need to get a bag of sand as well.

Get Lamisil ointment. It is really, really good. I used Mycil for ages with no results, and eventually went to my (wonderful) GP, who said Mycil is rubbish, and recommended Lamisil. You can buy it over the counter.

hairycaterpillar · 30/01/2009 19:56

Oh I second the beach and salty sea water my friend had awful resistant athletes foot. She spent the summer helping at a childrens campsite near a beach so would bathe her feet 1-2x daily and it totally cleared up and hasn't come back!

hairycaterpillar · 30/01/2009 19:58

hmmm maybe its Scottish seawater mawbroon I am in Scotland too!

SoMuchToBits · 30/01/2009 19:58

I spent a whole summer with my feet in sea-water, but it still didn't clear up until I had the lamisil. I now keep some in, and apply it at the first sign of trouble!

LuLuMacGloo · 30/01/2009 20:01

Dh always has something fungal ( am I painting an attractive picture of him???) but now swears by Canesten Hydrocortisone cream which, in combination with salty baths, has cleared him up a treat. Good luck!

Liney15 · 30/01/2009 21:46

My DH had a horrible foot infection when we met - big lumps on his feet(cue him hiding his feet so I couldn't see them!) and I bought him T for Toes from Lush which contains tea tree oil which was brillant for clearing it up completely - as its like talc it kept his feet dry as well.

AlistairSim · 30/01/2009 21:48

Wee on them in the shower.

Kayteee · 31/01/2009 12:03

Thanks to all...he's going to try them all out, even the weeing one

OP posts:
AlistairSim · 31/01/2009 18:18

If he tells you it has to be your wee, he's lying and is in fact a bit of a perv.

Kayteee · 31/01/2009 18:38
Blush

Oh Kayteee, you gullable floozy!

If he starts on about a special cream he has to sooth all your aches and pains, don't believe him, please.

trixiethepixie · 31/01/2009 21:54

My dh had this too and tried everything with no avail. He eventually went to the doctors after suffering for years (you know what men are like about seeing gp) and they gave him anti-fungal tablets which cleared it up in no time and he's had no reoccurences.

Kayteee · 01/02/2009 12:22

thank you Trixie, that'll be the next port of call if these other treatments don't work

OP posts:
Kayteee · 01/02/2009 13:45

oh, and Alistair,
have you not heard that wee is a very good cure for excema and psoriasis? I know someone personally who has used her own wee to get rid of hers! Not such a silly idea at all when you think about it. I think people will try almost anything if they are desperate to cure themselves

Schnullerbacke · 01/02/2009 17:30

Tea Tree Oil applied to skin directly helped me faster than anything else and also heard that Oil of Oregano is a very good anti-fungal remedy. Available in all good health-food shops

lazymumofteenagesons · 01/02/2009 18:27

Lamisil zapped it within a week. Expensive but worth it.

AlistairSim · 01/02/2009 20:25

I know, Kayteee, it was a serious tip. Just worried he's be expecting a golden shower.

Good for jellyfish stings too.

LizW55 · 21/08/2018 23:39

The tablets can cause liver problems so are a last resort and should be monitored by the GP.
