I have been getting really bad headaches the day before my period for the last couple of months . Tbh I hadn't linked the two things until a couple of days ago , and even then it was my dh not me .

The headache was really bad , wanting to lie in the dark bad .

Does anybody else suffer with this ? Any ideas on why ? I am very nearly 38 by the way . Am I just turning into an old lady ?

Hi, I'm another person who suffers these headaches since birth of dd 18m ago (I am 34 now).

They got so bad I did the same as OP, marking in my diary when I was due on to aviod booking stuff those days. Then before Xmas I decided to cut out caffeine and alcohol and what a difference!!!! 2x headache free periods. So I relaxed over Xmas, ate and drank what I wanted... migraine again.

So no more caffeine and alcohol for me and to be honest I accept that if it means no migraines!

Hope you find something to help.

PS I agree with others that codeine helps me more than other pain killers and that the pill was RUBBISH and made the migraines worse

I'm another one who's suffered since having DS (didn't seem to happen after DD). I couldn't see for hours (as my vision goes before the headache), but I got a mirena coil fitted which has worked so far (some side effects but not as bad as the migraines). (Don't like strong painkillers - they knock me out.)

moonmother - I had these headaches when on the pill during the pill free week - so the family planning doctor recommended that I have a break every three packets, instead of after every packet, to avoid the hormone levels dropping.

Re syndol and paramol- syndol make me woozy for a couple of hours too, but wooze is better than hurling into a bucket! I don't remember feeling woozy with paramol though, but haven't taken them for ages....

I've had menstrual migraines for 15 years but didn't know what they were until was seen by a neurologist. He prescribed betablockers! but having looked at the side effects I'm not sure I want to risk it. I can't find any painkillers that knock it out - 2 days of symptoms - including a pretty sleepless night. I have found some of the tiger balm/fore head and cold gel and pads quite helpful at providing a slight bit of relief, and depending how bad it is and when I catch it - caffeine, but this is a bit variable. I will try to see if I can get some of the tablets that slug suggests work.
I've just started to get nausea and actual sickness 5-2 days before a period, at separate and same times as the migraines (which come without fail every month and many times twice a month), and I never knew it was related. Think it feels like a pre-meno symptom though as now 44. Felt really like morning sickness, and knew I wasn't pregnant. I suppose I could try all the normal morning sickness "cures" that never really worked for me, but has anyone else found anything that works for them. Great reading all the posts and have picked up some new things to try.

i got these as well, floored me completely. All day in bed in dark room,.kids going feral, horrible.

I can second the power of imigran.
Wonderful stuff.

But the solution was to go back on to cerazette. No period, no migraine.

Migraines run in the family. My childhood is full of memories of my mother haveing another one of her attacks and taking to her bed. Once it was so bad she couldn't speak. dad at work, younger brothers and sisters at home and i was 12, scared the shit out of me, i called 999.

I have had very disabling regular hormone related headaches for 20 years with dizziness and sickness but my sister suggested Evening Primrose Oil when I could no longer buy Syndol. I have taken 1 capsule 1000 mg per day ( from tesco) for the last 4 months and not a headache since! My sister's headaches also stopped when she started taking this supplement. So worth a try.
