URGENT question with wayyyyy TMI

This is urgent because I am about to go for my 6 week post natal check-up and I do not know whether to mention it to the doctor.

Since giving birth 6 weeks ago my "hole" is rather bigger than I remember it being. During childbirth I did rip it and was sewn up, but it looks to be like it could have done with a few more stiches to restore it to its neatness. I have not "done the deed" yet and it is putting me off. It looks like the entrance to a large and unwelcoming cavern.

Is this normal? Does it close up again? Should I get the GP to take a look ?

Def worth mentioning, I'd have thought!

MuppetsMuggle · 27/01/2009 11:45

I'd mention it, if it was worrying me tbh.

Sawyer64 · 27/01/2009 11:48

Probably will look larger as muscle tone is still fairly lax.

Don't forget your Pelvic Floor muscle exercises, but mention it anyway to GP,as some check your Episotomy scars, and some don't

Unfortunately "things" are never quite the same after Childbirth.

PlumBumMum · 27/01/2009 11:48

Mention it,to make sure

but look at the size of your baby and remember the size of where it came out of

belgo · 27/01/2009 11:48

Mention it, and ask if you can have post natal physiotherapy for pelvic floor exercises as these correctly done can really help improve this problem.

Sawyer64 · 27/01/2009 11:50

Sorry didn't mean that as pessimistic as it sounds!
When you resume "activities" you will notice changes, but not too noticable, and if you tone up it won't be a problem for either of you IME

piratecat · 27/01/2009 11:52

first baby?

mine went the same, and never went back to how is was.

that was 6 yrs back and it still makes me

my guess is that there will def be improvement, yet surely it must depend on how you tore etc...

SoupDragon · 27/01/2009 11:55

Blow up a balloon and then let it go. It doesn't go back to it's pristine normal state does it? Sadly this is the case with your fanjo having had a baby's head squeezed through it. It will improve, of course, but it won't ever be pre-baby pristine. Pelvic floor exercises and lots of them!

belgo · 27/01/2009 11:59

it may never look exactly the same, but don't give up hope, the pelvic floor muscle is an easy muscle to train, and in most cases, if you do pelvic floor exercises correctly and regulary, you can regain function and feeling near enough to what you had before.
