Hi,Just wondered if anyone has any experience of this? Either "Anterior Repair"/Cystocele or "Posterior Repair"/Rectocele.

Good or Bad?

I am booked in to have this done and would be really grateful for some first-hand experience.Even the worst experiences.....

Bump.

I hope someone comes along who knows about it. I've not got either of these, exactly - but some degree of minor prolapse that I find discomforting. I've found the wholewoman website very interesting in giving alternatives to surgery (which wouldn't be appropriate for me anyway) - might be worth a look?
On the other hand, a friend did have this done recently (not sure exactly what), and although the recovery was nasty for a bit, she's pleased with it.

Hello NervousNell, have no such experience, just bumping for you. But it could be an idea to post this question on the CHILDBIRTH section too, if you haven't done it already. Good luck!

Thankyou for your replies

palmwoods started a thread about this (she has just had it done) a few days ago, it's in the general health topic.

Hi i had both done last month (with bladder work and other repair work!) and was really nervous, i didnt have too much pain and the first few weeks u need a lot of tlc and rest. i am 6 weeks tomorrow and have overdone it the last few days so now need to take it easier..not easy with 2 toddlers! really it wasnt as bad as i expected. lots of first hand messages on us site hyster sisters (something like that). good luck Trish

NervousNell1 · 26/01/2009 20:33

Thanks Trish.

My biggest problem is I have just started a New Job so won't get paid sick time,so I have booked a weeks holiday.

I'm just hoping I will be fit enough to rtn to work the following week.It is a sit down office job.

NervousNell, a week is way too little time to get over an op like that!

I have just had a bladder tape done (which is a minor op) nearly 2 weeks ago, and I'm still tired, and having to take it relatively easy. You will need at least a month/6 weeks before you return to even a desk job. Otherwise you will risk not recovering properly.

NervousNell1 · 26/01/2009 21:26

I haven't got a lot of choice though. Can't afford to be off and unpaid.

As long as I can drive and sit,I shall have to risk it.
Just hope I won't be in pain.

I can cope with discomfort and tiredness (what mum doesn't! I have 3 DC's,2 DC's are under 5)

I only work 3 mornings,so I hope I can do this after 1 week.

no way is aweek long enough- the recovery time is the same as a hysterectomy- 6 weeks at home nad another 6 weeks taking it easy.
I had to have help at home to look after 2 DCS.
You need to rest and keep off your feet.
Your employer should be told this is a major op, in terms of recovery time.

veryembarrassedmummy · 26/01/2009 21:33

P.s. you will probably be told not todrive too soon as well- I was told 2 weeks minimum no driving.
If you do too much you risk undoing all the work that has been done- thisop is meant to last for years, so you really need to rest and recover.
I amsure it is hard if you need the cash, but honestly, you should get sick pay or something. You really cannot expect to get back to work/normal in a week.

NervousNell1 · 26/01/2009 21:42

I agree,and it is stupid,but I can't see anyway round it.

I'm sure if I'm in too much pain,or not mobile I'll have no choice but to take another week off unpaid.

I only have experience of a D&C, and a C-Section,and I bounced back after those,I was getting in a bath alone 6 hrs after my section.

I have had an Episotomy, and that got infected so was imagining it would feel a little like that, obviously didn't need to get better quick then as I was on Mat.Leave.

veryembarrassedmummy · 26/01/2009 22:13

The tissues need time to heal.It is nothing like an episiotomy or a C section. This is intricate surgery with lots of stitches. If you do too much you risk undoing- literally- all the work that has been done. The tissues need to heal and become stable.
You will be up and about and having baths and showers pretty soon - but that does not mean your body has recovered! The actual op takes about an hour I was told- mine did anyway. A lotlonger than a C section or a D&C.
You should not have pain as you will be given pain killers.
Even if you feel full of energy, your body needs rest to heal.

Please re-think. Has your dr not given you details of recovery times and what you can and can't do?

NervousNell1 · 26/01/2009 22:21

The gynae consultant just said 6 weeks off,and no lifting.I expect they will give me post op instructions afterwards.

OP posts:
veryembarrassedmummy · 26/01/2009 22:36

That's right- 6 WEEKS OFF- not back at work after a week!
