Hi, for several nights my ds has woken nearly every hour/couple of hours and seems, from his body language, to be in discomfort in his tummy area. He is still fairly new to solids so I wonder if this might be causing him some discomfort, while his digestive tract gets used to it. (So far he is mainly eating apple, banana, occasional pear and various fruit fromage frais - he ate carrot puree once and refuses it ever since and refuses baby rice).

Has anyone else had a similar experience, any advice on helping aleviate the pain? He seems to be OK in the morning (usually after a bowel movement).

Have you tried restricting him to one type of puree each day to see if it's a particular one that's causing problems?

Maybe try some vegetable ones like butternut squash (cut in half, put on a tray, brush with butter, cover with foil and bake for 1.5 hours at gas mark 4 - comes out lovely and smooth! You can also cut it up and steam it too). It's less acidic than fruit so may be easier on his tummy.

You can mix apple with the carrot puree to make it nicer. I used to make a "trio of orange veggies" puree with butternut squash, carrot and pumpkin which used to go down well.

my dd too had tummy trouble when I started to wean her so I stopped for several weeks before starting again. She also didn't like baby rice but I like soup dragon gave her pureed root veg, swede, parsnip, sweet potato, carrot and she loved these. Also avocado went down a treat. I wouldn't give too much fruit as although they like it it may be too acidic on the tummy. Try the root veg one at a time, butternut squash was also good and if you aren't making it yourself BeechNut do brillient first weaning foods.

hi there. i'm having the same problems with my daughter who's the same age...i've been in contact with HV(who happens to be pretty useless) and asked numerous other parents if this normal and still don't know if it is. if you do find out any information it would be great if you could pass on to me as i'm starting to go out of my mind...she has suffered from colic and reflux but i don't think it has anything to do with either. fingers crossed for both of us that it is just a passing phase and their little tummies will quickly settle.
