Had it boiling up within secods of snatching out of the Postman's hands! Have already done a dry run as it were and removed some stem.

I am due on any day now and can't wait (I had one some years ago, pre-30 and pre-DD but never really got on with it, the subsequently lost it - hopin for a better experience this time).

Any tips for a newbie? Also I'm off to CenterParcs next week (cue lots of swimming and cycling, although not in white jeans) - what are my chances of a successful swimming outing - or should I stick to the tried and tested method whilst MC and I getting to know each other?

You're funny . Hope you get on with it better this time.

IMO, avoid 'dry' runs, it's much easier to manage when you are (ahem) more 'moist'.

Most important of all: relaaaaaaax about it. If it doesn't go in or come out easily, straighten up, rinse your hands, breathe a little, loosen up and then try again. Exhale with your jaw relaxed, don't clench your teeth. I find both insertion and removal easiest to manage sitting on the loo. Also helps to rinse the M with hot water - it's quite unpleasant trying to insert something cold!

As for your holiday, take your old stuff just in case. But I doubt you'll need it.

Have fun!

I would take extra stuff with you and a pair of scissors for trimming! Good luck
You say you 'lost' last one so did DD pop out in dinky hat?

BabyValentine · 23/01/2009 14:01

no hat for DD! But do watch out for the 'Help Me Retrieve My Mooncup!' thread I wil doubtlessly be posting next week (although I will be sure to take your advice PrettyCandles). In fact, I would print it out and stick it to the back of the bathroom door but DH might object.

not an expert but a 6-months user and complete convert.

my top tip is that it gets a lot softer with use so don't be disheartened if it feels a bit stiff and difficult to manipulate at first.

oh, just thought of another top tip. Don't put it in too high (like a tampon) as this can be really uncomfortable. you should be able to feel the stem (or the stub if you've cut it off) without rummaging around inside yourself.

as you will have noticed there is no such thing as TMI on a mooncup thread- good luck and do persist- I will never go back!

kingprawntikka · 23/01/2009 14:32

Have used mine for center parcs , no problems at all.

girlandboy · 23/01/2009 14:37

Another fan of the warm water method here!

However, unlike Pendulum I do put mine higher like a tampon because I hate being able to feel it lurking in the entrance hall.

I would take some of the old tried and trusted protection with you anyway, but you probably won't need them.

claireybrations · 23/01/2009 14:40

Bear down to get it out, I really panicked the first few times til I was given that tip

TheLorax · 23/01/2009 15:57

OK, TMI here but has anyone else found that there is loads of blood left in the toilet even after flushing? I have found this and it's OK at home but I had a terrible multiple-flushing problem at work today!

suwoo · 23/01/2009 16:00

Don't ask me, I have had had very 'specialised' concerns with mine .

beansmum · 23/01/2009 16:00

yep. just tip it out onto a bit of toilet paper, then it should all flush down.

PrettyCandles · 23/01/2009 16:06

Tip it into the basin - it all ends up in the same sewer after all. Else get going with the toilet brush.

BabyValentine · 23/01/2009 16:12

Thanks everyone. I hope that I can be revolutionised and stop dreading. Waiting for AF [taps foot]...

Suwoo - I am intrigued, do tell.

Well.......

  1. I have a prolapse and it didn't get on too well with the mooncup and frequently expelled it. I once did a 30 min presentation with it sat in my knickers.

  2. My mooncup had the suction power of a dyson, as in November it sucked out my coil whilst I was removing it. 6 weeks later, I was pregnant .

Both of those stories can be found in the MN archives.

Good luck with it valentine
